Favorite Bear Gun and why? (caliber and model)
What is your favorite bear gun and why? Not just caliber, but make and model? I like the Marlin Guide Gun Stainless in .45-70.
What do you look for? Lever action? Bolt action? Pistol? Barrel length? Weight?

I think there was a post similar to this a little while back?? but I carry a .41 mag, never put the lights out on one yet but the bear hunter I bought it from said it did the job for him. It's the 44 mags little brother, I think more accurate, and handles better. 7 1/2" barrel, Custom birds eye maple grip my dad made, 210gr. semi's by hornady, and if you know what your doing with your loads you can almost match the 44 with a little less kick back. You said you wanted it all.

I carry a Marlin .444, or my Winchester model 70 30-60, or a 12g Shotgun, all open sights. Then carry S&W 44 mag as a back up. I shoot a Winchester model 94 30-30 too, but Im still not convinced its a great choice for Bear. That said the 30-30 will be my 12 year old twin boys first Bear Gun, this year.

I carry a Taurus Titanium 41 mag pistol. It only weighs 18oz and after a long day walking doesn’t weigh you down. I can lead dogs and carry my backpack and it doesn’t get in the way. It also does a nice job with a bear on the ground. I have tried long guns and pistols, this seems to fit me better than the rest!

I don't kill to many bears anymore, but I liked the Rem Mohawk600 in a 222rem. NIce short gun, easy to carry and a good shot in the lungs and it was over quick. And you never worried about bullets exiting and hitting a dog.

Personally, It is hard to beat the Win 92 and 94 trapper. 44mag, 41, 32, 30-30, whatever. Short and light. I have a Puma 92 with 16 inch barrell. Made a back pack to carry it in that also holds my quicktrack. Whip it out like a ninja sword. Mine is 454 casull. I think the 94 (or maybe a real winchester) is a little more reliable in it's action.

I'm real partial to the one that goes BOOM!!! and uses my buddy's ammo.
Re: Favorite Bear Gun and why? (caliber and model)
Out of the 50 or bear I have seen harvested the big guns did it well. The smallest gun I have seen used was a 45 long colt, not enough in opinion. I have seen 44 mag, 454, 500, 300 mags, 270, 30/06, 30/30's, 45/70 and smoke poles of all makes and sizes. The most impressive was the 450 marlin, the bears shot with the 450's died on impact. My take is, if you are going to kill something, kill it!
