Black paws vs White paws..

Whats the difference..? is it more of a preference thing or is there legitimate reasons?

I think a lot of people will tell you there's a ligitamate reason, but I mostly think it's in there head.

I have family that will argue with me they won't own a pink footed dog. They tear, crack, bruise, ect so much worse than another black footed dog.

The reason I feel that it's mostly a head game, and can easily be so is this. Cuts, bruises and the such look a lot worse and are more noticeable on a dog with pink feet. On a black footed dog, pick them up for a quick second, and don't notice the small things like you do on the others. Upon close inspection though, you see alot more.

Some of the worst footed dogs I've seen were solid black. Plotts, and B&T's and dark colored crosses - after one day thy are split, cracked, and swollen between thier toes. I have quite a few dogs with some feet pink, some black. The most tenderfooted dog we have has all black feet, while our best is mostly pink. Sometimes I think it's in the dogs heads too, more so. Our English dog (all black) exagerates everything and wants us to baby him, limping around all pathetic (but you turn him loose he has no problem) I've seen my Walker male with his pads ripped off, and he wouldn't for a second act hurt, he might miss out on something.

Thanks for the reply...I am considering crossing my B/T and a american fox that has been bred for white/pink paws..the kennel I received her from breeds for the lighter paw!?!? They are a fox and coyote hunting group.. just curious thanks again..

Well for my experiance the light paws do not hold up as well to hard running.Course Ive only been at this 25 plus years,check back in another 25

The worst feet I've seen were speckled and light. I don't have near the experience as Sam, but i like dark solid feet. definitly no speckles.

color of feet don't matter as long as you keep em in running condition

I have blown out pink feet and I have blown out dark feet. I am no expert but I dont think it matters.

my redbone has black feet, but I think its his lifestyle that makes them so tough. He walks 5/miles day on concrete city sidewalks a couple days a week, and that seems to toughen them up a lot. I occasionally run him with a friend's redbone that gets bloody feet in snow and ice after half an hour. Mine can run all night in icy weather without a problem.

I feel pads are pads. Of course some dogs feet will be tenderer than others but pads are pads. I f you keep them in running condition then you should have no problems be it black or pink. I have pink feet black feet and mixed feet and they are all the same keep 'em up and they all do just fine. its all about the conditioning if their feet not the color ???

Foot color is a minor point for me but I can say there is one definite benefit to white feet almost everyone will agree on. When the dog has white feet it usually has white toenails which are so much easier to trim without cutting the quick because you can see it. With black toenails it is a guessing game.

Bring those white padded dogs here to wv in bear season(Dec) and run em day in and day out.They wont hold up.

Why dont you bring those dark footed dogs out here to the desert and run them year round on this rock,catus and lava rock we have.lol
Anyway they have done studies on this subject and they have said there is no proof to the fact that any of this is true it is however the make up of the animal in question, most of the studies they have done are on horses and they have done some on dogs also.
The worst footed dog I ever had was a black footed dog. and the offspring from him. So once again genetics are very important.
Oh and this is just my 43 years of expierence.lol

I think its more shape of the foot and genetics that make good or bad feet than the color.

enviroment can degrade foot quality very fast---wet soft ground is tough on feet .
