I've been after this one big tom for at least 2 years. He's quite the animal I had him jumped one day and he ledged the dogs up quickly, he is quite thee worthy adverary. I've cut his tracks many a day but usually i'm a few days behind.
Well two days ago I cut ol brutus's track in the powder dirt on everyone elses tire tracks. Lion season is closed in that unit and it was filled with Gameys it broke my heart not to put the ol girls on that big ol thomas. My stomach is still upside down, SEPT 1st GET HERE PLEEEEEASE. I'm aching to pound away on a big ol tom track.

That's the luck of it az_ , to have that brute show himself fresher in the off season. But I have an idea if you stay after him before you know it that tom will be hanging on your wall.........
Hopefully, September will be cooler and more enjoyable anyway. I walked out of the store last night, must have been nearly 9:00 P.M., and the hot air coming off the parking lot was toasty...

Crappy luck
Anyone know the reasoning behind the season changes in AZ anyhow? Lost 4 months of the year on lions and 4 months on furbearers, they do overlap so that there is only 2 months down time unless you want to try chase coyotes(still year round on those) oh and skunks hehe...
Its not like those months were big kill months for lions and bobcats ect... It sure was nice to be able to hunt year round... maybe we could ask for a persuit season during those months? Just a thought

Tom Jr,
I asked GFD about it and they initially responded by saying it was to further the kitten survival because of the extreme heat it's hard on them to be chased. I didn't agrue just listened. I then asked why couldn't we have a pursuit season for bears in the spring and lions year round. I was told that it was being considered.
That's what I know of it.

They are trying 2 shut down the summer hunting in Utah as we write. I killed a summer cat and would never do it again for multiple reasons but hell whats the harm in chasing the dang things. I'd imagine in AZ your like Utah and thats the only time you can have fun chasing Lions without a million hounds out and about.
