We usually use 4-6. When the bear is treed we sometimes walk some pups in

4 good dogs will get the job done I will usually only feed one pup in to each race.So i guess 5 with the pup is the max. People put too many dogs in and usually end up with dogs running dogs. Hunted Maine for the past 5 years 4 dogs is the max on the ground at a time and we usually hunt two weeks and take 8 dogs so we dont run the pack down. Have treed as many as 13 in 2 weeks so i guess 4 will get it done.

6 is my lucky number! I have hunted with some guys and they would tailgate and it seems to me when you have 12 dogs or even 10 dogs on a bayed bear that more dogs get hurt. I think it is because when the bear runs after the dogs, the dogs cant jump away because there are to many dogs behind him. He has no where to go. Just my experience, I might be wrong

In WI we can 6 at the maximum, so when someone asks how many dogs are out the answer is always 6
Seriously though we treed one last weekend with one dog and have treed them with 6, we usually put 6 on a hot track and only 2 on a cold track all depends on the situation.

Caught a lot with one, a lot with two, but three seems to be just about perfect. Sounds good, easy to handle, easy to see who's doing what, and what there doing.

Been runnin' 3 for over a year now. Went up to four a few times, just haven't found the "right" number four dog. Got a little pup coming soon, hopefully he'll be it. I like to keep 2-3 years between dogs. I have a 4 year old, 2 year old, a 18 month old, and the little guy on the way.

I like having 1-3 older well trained dogs and 1-3 younger ones coming up.
they get old to fast and good to slow. I usually start a bear with 1-3 dogs and then start adding heat at every road. if hunting big country, get em in as soon as the track is good enough to keep you weakest dogs attention.
2 or 3 good dogs will tree way more bears than 6-10-15 culls. cull hard it makes for more successful hunts.
