Would the garmin be good for me?

Post by wiblueboy »

I bear hunt in northern Wisconsin. Lots of brush and huge hills. I've heard bad things about the antenna and was woundering if this system would work good for me. Thanks

I hunt in the mountains of Va. and the new DC-30 collars work fine for us here.
Started using them in early Sept.

They give you much more information then a regular tracker. I think you'll find it useful beyond just finding your dogs.

I just got one last night and used it this morning. When they got out around a mile I was losing them with the short antenna and put the extended one on and never lost them again up here. It's an amazing tool and will pay for it's self just in the gas I'll save not running all over gods creation trying to figure out where the dogs are and what they are doing. We had a bear going this a.m. and I was able to get right to where they were going to cross a two track into an area we don't want them in and was able to turn the bear and dogs back into the section we wanted them in. I can't see ever hunting with the old beeper units any more they are that impressive!

I'd keep the beeper unit and run both. We use them as back up if we get a split race and we have dogs running two directions. It will help you find a signal for your Garmin.

Because like anything new they don't fully trust them! Also not every body has a Garman in the groups they hunt with like me so if you run both systems then every body can can keep track of the dogs is just a couple reasons why. But it's not needed.

They don't have the range that the beeper units have.

They also only have about 24 hous of battery life on a full charge. Bad news if you lose a dog, so most will run both.

Blue boy- You will be fine. Don't let the cynics scare you. Try it you will like it. No other collar is on my dogs. A friend that was concerned about them told me today he has not used his beep beep stuff in a week now. That is in about the worst area of WI there is!

To make my point a little more. Our dogs are not tools! They are family members. Would not take a chance in losing them to anything. At some point they all sleep with me. If I had a bigger bed they may all sleep with me nightly.
