someone shot 3 lions about 50 miles from where I live that had been killing goats and were shot by the fence where they were getting ready to kill some more last night, there were 4 of them total. Dont know who shot them, just saw them at our office

...and buck posted the glory photos. Those days of posting pics of mass slaughter are over. The DOW and the Gov't. hunters do the same kind of killing around here and you don't see those pics on here do you? It is high time we use our heads for something other than a hat rack...or your hounds will be fetching newspapers in the morning...

Here in north central Idaho the cougar populations are not good. The numbers have gone down to almost none over the past ten to fifteen years. This is because of Fish & Game mismanagement, i.e. no quota on cougar's harvested as well as overharvest of prey species, mainly elk. This is a revolving problem, in that since the elk numbers are low, the consensus with elk hunters (the F&G's money makers) is that we need to reduce predator populations. What they do not understand is that there are so few cougar left they aren't making much of an impact here. The F&G won't listen to houndsmen in the state and implement a quota in this area, they won't risk offending the elk hunters. I did find a few cougar last winter but nothing like I did fifteen years ago. Compared to what it was only a few years ago, it really is sad how bad things have gotten. Wolves have helped with the cougar population decline as well since they both compete for the already stressed prey species.

That statement pisses me off to the core...I suppose legalizing gay marriage is morally justifiable?

Liontracker your exactly right. They don't listen to us because they don't want to. If you really look into the F&G they are being inpregnated by peta people and tree huggers. Not that I'm not a tree hugger, hunters are the biggest and best tree huggers there are. These people know though that the way to change something is to run it. Thats exactly what they are trying to do. JMO

I think the lion pop around here is good in certain units and way low in others. we have quota's on all our units which is good and most of the houndsmen refrain from taking females or young toms, some guys will. but for the most part the guys who run hounds are smart and don't want the quota's cut by killing to many females.

Daves- yeh, in some units all is well in Colorado. But the statewide average for 2008 was 38% female harvest. Way too high! We need to do a better job of educating greedy outfitters and newbies. Just watch...we are going to suffer because of this.

Here in az it is ok. Depends on where you are. In the areas that get snow there are not as many the desert units. I think if they dont put a quota system into play its going to get alot worse.
