Female Cats

Post by Boozer »

I was wondering how you guys feel about guys that shoot females. There is alot of people where i am from that kill all the females they tree and personally i dont like it. My theory has always been if you leave it in the tree you can tree it another day. Lots of these guys are shooting these 2-4 year old females and some really young toms. Just thought i would get some feedback.

those are a bunch of idiots in my opion.kill all the females and you will not have any more game to run in the future. Same goes with the young toms. Sounds like you got a bunch of unseasoned hound hunters in your area.

hunting licenses should require an ethics course. Our sport requires us to govern our selves through our use of ethics. females should actually be off limits as well as they should have a minimum size requirement like most states that require deer to have forked antlers.

don't think you have to worry about it anymore since you are in a draw area.

The way things are going Boozer region 2 will go to permit just like region 1 after this winter unfortunately and you will see the rest of the state fighting to keep it from passing statewide.

Harvesting of females is now regulated in region 1 finally by sub quota which the rest of the state has had for many years. Those females that are in the sub quota will be harvested regardless how we feel because if the sub quota is not met FWP will increase it to reach their goal.

We all want to insure we have a future but FWP is looking at biological balance and as long as they can not balance the wolf they will balance the one predator they have control over, thats just the way it is. Remember for every houndsmen out there crying the cat numbers are down there are 10 elk and deer hunters crying that numbers are out of control.

As for the guys you speak of, their not houndsmen, they just want to run around the local gas station bragging about the number of cats they treed or killed, there not in it for the love of listening to their hounds. There the one's that will get weaned out of the sport after they get tired of not drawing the permit.

Thats a good way to look at it Scott. So when do you think this permit process is going to take over the whole state.

I hope never.......I think though that you will see it petitioned within the next 3 years. Not that much support from the commisioners on the eastside to go to permit.

hunting cats

Post by coonhound »

I personal wouldnt kill any Female Lion unless its TOM and OVER 150 lbs! Hope you all respect that. That way u all we get to chase more than 15 lion per four month. If you all brag about what you kill female or smaller  we all wont get any much left to chase :( . Last year I SIMPLE got 12 lions to chase and released them and my buddy chase 6 treed lions with in 7 days and it was all female and had BLAST TIME :D . it was better than kill any. I have not kill any yet until I treed above 150lbs I will SHOOT! but I like to enjoy my life listen to my dogs barking at lion and very happy dogs and go find fresh track and again and again. it was FUN!
I was hoping you understand that when there is 36 draw hunter out there and trying to kill all and next year you get less and less of size cats to chase. I would hope you all just enjoy and hope u will keep ur dogs BUSY with chasing more often and enjoy your life. One day you will be blessed when you treed a OVER 150lbs lion than shoot below 100's lbs Make sure you show your biggest lion to prove you a best hunter! 8) Thats my PLANN!!!!

Wish you all have a blast winter hunting be safe...

I think Spanky is 100% correct and I also think we will see some more big changes in the near future. Like pick your weapon for big game. I dont care for the female harvest but like has already been said to many road hunters claming to see double lion tracks compared to the game.

Ya Scott knows what he is talkin about cause he pretty much got all of that rollin off the ground when they first started it up. I think it is a good way to keep more cats on the ground for pursuit and still give everyone a chance to harvest also. It will hopefully keep the female harvest to a minimum, at least that is what i am hoping for.

One thing for sure fellas we have to stay on top of all the issues. You would be surprised what the liberals and democrats of this state have tried to slide in.

It was not that long ago (6 months) that Democrat from Missoula was trying to get a bill passed to limit hounds/dogs in the field to only one per hunter but we got it squashed before it got to the house.

We have a similar discussion going about the Toms and how most fellas that draw the tag claim they will eat the tag and hold out for the toads. In reality we all wish to harvest that 160, 170, 180 pound Tom but thats not gonna happen. Just having the opportunity to end the race and be able to better evaluate the animal without feeling pressured is a bonus for those that have drawn the tag.

First off every district has a female sub quota and once the Tom quota is filled that only leaves the females to be harvested. Also FWP will continue to increase permits each year if the quota numbers are not met. They have a number in there head set my the biologists how many couogars that they want harvested per unit each year. If everyone did hold out for the biggest toms the permits would likely increase like they did here in the Swan. Human nature will not allow those to hold out like they claim they will....

That's the reality of it right there Scott. All the females taken of the quota's here for this year, so you guy's can keep that permit system for awhile hopefully! looking forward to being able to chase the couple that are always around but end up getting shot. This year they don't have to worry!

On a side note, I would be curious to poll all those involed in this post to see how many of them have had a female hit the ground next to thier dogs, if they would admit that?
