Jeff Allen's Tucker Dog

I talked with Jeff the other day about breeding a little bitch dog I have back to one of his dogs, he said the Tucker dog would be the best choice, I know Jeff's as honest as a guy gets and his dogs are top notch, I just wanted to know what everyone else thought. I'm going to breed to him either way, but it's cool to here what other people that have hunted with the dog thought. The little dog I'm breeding to him is super cold nosed and has a lot of heart, she is 3/4 Hal Mecham bred and 1/4 of her blood goes back to Van Johnson's old dogs so it should be a sweet cross I've been hunting this Mecham strain of dogs for 10-12 years now and its awsome stuff so I know going back to the Allen stuff will just make them all that much better. When its time for the pups to be born just contact Jeff for availability if there even will be. Any info would sure be appreciated.. Thank You.

I've never hunted with tucker personally but have good friends that do. You might want to contact JC Call Or Randy (Cold track) They both have hunted with this dog over the years. One thing I do know is Right now he is jeffs top dog and that says somethin right there. Tucker and grandpa usually start jeffs tracks he drops on. I would definetly do it if I was you. JMO

Thanks for the info man. Thats kind of what I figured if its Jeff's top dog it would be a top dog in ANYONES pack bar none, espesialy on the cold trail end of things, I believe those dogs can cold trail as good as any around anywhere, and not to mention they are dirty tough footed. I use to own a white dog I called Q that I belive was out of the old ace dog, and she was a nice nice young dog when I got rid of her, about as nice a young dog I've ever hunted out of anyone's stuff, and Jeff told me the other day she turned out to be one of the nicest dogs the guy that owns her has so I'm way excited about this cross we are going to make.

Is Tucker out of his old stuff or is he Nance bred? Just curious.

He is out of the old dog's he's raised for years. The Tucker dog is out of the old Badger dog and I heard he was one heck of a nice dog also, but I would have to say I've never heard a bad thing about any of those old dogs, most people I've talked to that hunted with them said they was as nice of dirt lion dogs you could hunt with, and that's coming from some dang good hunters, so like I said before I'm super pumped to try them out.

I do think Tucker is one hell of a dog but dont overlook that grandpa dog. I have heard from a few guys that live right there with Jeff in Kanab that he might be a little colder than Tucker and can really push a track as well. A friend of mine that has Jeffs dogs, has a full littermate to grandpa and he is something else. If I remember correctly Grandpa and this Joey dog of Richie Jeffries are out of Slim X Cindy. This Joey dog is a super nice dog and he produces some really nice dogs. Jeff bred a hand full of dogs to Grandpa's brother Joey. I dont think you could go wrong no matter what but I just wanted to point out that either one would be good and all though my opinion doesnt matter if I had a choice I would probably go with a Grandpa pup or a Joey pup. JMO

Thanks for the info man. What I will prbably do is just let Jeff make the choice, I will get the bitch to him and after he's around her a day or to I will just ask him to use his best judgment, like you said "I can't go wrong either way" whatever I get out of those old dogs I know I will be pleased with. Yeah Jeff definitely knows best and can tell better than anybody and I would do exactly as you are going to and that is let him make the choice. My ol buddy had Tucker at his house for a while and he didnt have enough good things to say about that dog.

I've seen them both, Tucker and Grandpa. If I had my choice I would go with Grandpa. Only because of the size and looks of the dog. I just love the little houndy looking dogs. Both dogs are dirty cold nosed and both handle great. Like it was said before you can't go wrong with either one. Good Luck and put me on the list for a pup...

rz just a question. What was the cross on that little Q hound that you said you sold and is she still alive?

I was talking to Jeff today and he said anyone who wants to breed to his grandpa dog can but they will be sorely disapointed since he was castrated last year. Should be a cheap stud bill though.

If I remember right I think I was told that Q was out of the old hank dog. And as far as I know she is still alive, she ended up in Arizona to one of Jeff's buddy's, that's been a long time ago so the best way to get info on her is to talk to Jeff he would know best.
