This is weird

Post by HOUND HUNTIN' FOOL »

I have a redtick 11 month old pup. And I have a cowdog that Ive had sence before I had hounds, and he runs around the yard when cars drive by and when I pull in and out of the Driveway. And the pup just runs right there with him and face barks him the whole time. Every time the cowdog is running the pup is right there in his face barking. Not barking at the cars just barking right in the other dogs face. Is this a bad thing will he do that when him and the other dogs are trialing. If it is, is thre a way to fix it.

It can be bad. The pups little brain is overloaded with excitement so he does not know what to do. This can easily lead to problems with other dogs at the tree etc. Put an e-collar on the dog and buzz him a little every time he face barks the yard dog. Don't blow his head off, but tick him enough that it distracts him from what he is doing at the moment he is doing it. It might take a few sessions, but it should work. I have been working a string of young propspects all summer. When they get going, it is a good bet one or two of them will start babbling out of excitement. A few taps on the neck from Mr. Tri Tronics helps get them back in the right frame of mind. Doesn't take much, but it does take some.

I think that pup needs something to focus on other than his kennelmate,he needs to get to work. All that instinct is coming out of him with nowhere to go.
