most any breed or bloodline can be good, IF YOU PUT THE WORK INTO THEM. figure out what you want the dog to do & more importantly HOW you want it to do it. then look for what does it that way well & pick what appeals to you.

for a begginer get a started dog, it saves a lot of headache, but any breed will work as long as you do the research on the style of each dog.

thanks for the input fellas. Nm plott, I thought about getting a started dog, and I do understand it will be much tougher, but when things start to click I will have much more satasfaction, with a pup. what do you think about a duncan or cameron as a first biggame hound?

At your age you will be way ahead if you go with guys that have dogs hunting what game you want to hunt. Put your time into helping them with their dogs, leading, feeding and exercising in the OFF season as well as hunting season (hunting season makes too many friends) and then see about working a deal to get a pup and going with them. A pup by itself has the odds stacked against it. Good luck!
