Amazing Garmin tracker
I put my Garmin collar on my dog tied up at the house.
I took the receiver with me & started for town 22 miles away.
My country flat land no trees much.
I got to town it showed 20 miles & had my collar pin pointed at home.
Amazing what these things will do.
I don,t know how much farther it will work.
I will try a farther distance one of these days for another test.

Re: Amazing Garmin tracker
You need to make sure that your garmin is actually picking up the dogs signal.
It will show the dog at the last known location.. My guess is it wasn't reaching 22 miles, but rather showed your dogs still at your house because that's the last place it had them.. I beleive it will show a ? next to the dog if it's not a recent reading.

Re: Amazing Garmin tracker
Guys,
Here in Florida we are getting pretty consistent readings out to 5 miles. The collars howver do not transmit a FM signal when the Hounds are swiming or in deep knee deep water running. However with 9 collars some Hound in the pack is usually out of the water and transmitting letting us know what is happening. Also when the foliage is really thick you will only get 700 yds of so of range, I guess the signal just can not get out, I know tht I play HELL trying to get in!
We have found that the Garmin Long Range handheld antenae extended abotu 2/3ds of the way out laid on the dash board gives longer range than our roof mount antenae. With the added benefit of not breaking your coax when shutting the truck door or window on the cord!
I AR the range we get in the Hills and Mts is 2 to 3 miles. Several times though we have gone to a high point and recieved signal from 7 to 9 miles!
The Astro 22o is a great tool and just like American Express "We will not leave home with out it"!
Good Running to All!

OK
I guess I don,t know what I am doing.
If the dog is running around,
Should my reading be ok?

As I understand it, it will have a ? (question Mark) next to the dog if it is not communicating. It should also say Lost communication with the dog or something like that.
I wish there was a opion for the Last updated time on there but I haven't found it if it is there. It would be nice to say, Dog 1 Updated 5 minutes ago, or 30 seconds ago 15 hours ago.... etc.. So you know that you are getting a Updated reading on it. The last time I went hunting, it was showing my dogs 250 miles away!! it took a couple minutes for them to show their new location.. (a couple yards away!)

I've done 10.5 miles no problem in open farm country. Sometimes the garmin will show your dog still as moving or whatever but infact theres no communication with the collar if you go to the dogs page it does'nt always switch to the question mark, so its possible to get long range readings when infact its not communicating. You have to double check it sometimes, at least mine anyways........

Hipshooter,
If you will cancel the dog out and go to the main menu and go to dog list and add new dog then hold collar to receiver it will add new collar again. If the collar just wont turn on it may have a dead battery make sure the blue light comes on when charging to know it is receiving charge.

Re: Amazing Garmin tracker
HEY GUYS I HAVE FOUND THAT THE EXTENDER ANTANA WORKS PRETTY GOOD IT LOOKS JUST LIKE A RADIO ANTANA AND IT EXTENDS YOUR RANGE QUITE A BIT. I BOUGHT IT ON EBAY THE ONLY PLACE I COULD FIND IT, IT COMES OUT OF SWEDEN ITS ABOUT 20 BUCKS WORTH EVER PENNIE. THE ASTRO IS A AWESOME TOOL IT MAKES HUNTING WITH HOUNDS SO MUCH FUNNER. AND CHEAPER.
