Lion hunting help

Post by bigfatfarmer »

Hey I am wondering if their is any one out their that would be willing to show a rookie lion hunter the ropes. I have a good friend who has been a great help in teaching me the ins and outs of the sport and I was able to put up some bears because of him. It would be nice to have somebody else to see a different way of doing things. I hunt most saturdays and I live in the North West corner of New Mexico. Let me know if any body is willing to help thanks.

If you are in the north west corner you can't be far from me. Drop a line and we will discuss. Just keep in mind I do not commercially hunt and I am all about the dogs and not killing my sport.

We should all try to help out interested hunters, and keep our sport alive.

A word of caution to those who seek: some have used this platform to gain an entrance into another way to hang a hides on the wall . Believe me I am sincere and I will help an honest dog man, but I will also show up on the doorstep with a badge if they cross the lines, break the rules and disgrace the sport.

Hey Mike well put. We need more HOUNDSMAN like you around, especially up north. If more guys cared out the sport, the hounds, and of course the wildlife we would have a better rap for what we do. I respect every animal my dogs tree and every animal the beats my pack.

Thanks Mic

I say these things not from an inflated sense of honor but from a base of common sense. Dog men themselves have done more to harm their sport than any of the damage the antis have done.

Bending the rules, breaking them,Trashing the landscape and poaching other game on the side. I have seen a ton of it and it is no wonder that every time a Game and Fish Officier sees a dog box heading to the woods he goes on red alert.

Nobody is perfect and accidents happen but those hound hunters that knowingly and willfully go out and break the law are in fact screwing each and every other hound hunter in the country. And that doesn't impress me much.

Deano,

I don't know about that. All I know is Saturday morning I was struggeling along watching five hounds pounding on a lion track and the music was so sweet. My special step son said. Mike this is really neat. The dogs that just seem like dogs at home are so wired and they are so about what they are doing all I can do is watch. We watched and followed.

It is a very good sport, it is clean and sporting, and it takes the hound lover to some of the finest scenery in all of America. No sensless killing no indiscrimanate shooting but rather a true study of nature. Your hounds allow you to see up close and personal what others may not ever see.
Am I against harvest? Heavans no! Properly selected and properly executed it is part of the cycle. Well you say if they were not there with a gun then what would happen. Mearly the same thing but nothing saved for postertity. Yes as the older males grow and segregate not long and they are no longer viable breeders but nomadic. Surely they breed occasioanly but most often are killed by virile territorial males in their prime, or just drift off due to injury, tooth problemsd or starvation and die.
And life goes on as the bones bleach in the sun.

I whole heartedly agree with everyone on here. Mike you give us young houndsmen in training something to aspire to. I still have relatives up in your area I visit from time to time, maybe I can drop you a line next time Im up there and bend your ear a little and you can show me what its like to be a HOUNDSMAN!
