Now why would you degrade a cur by saying that.

In all seriousness alot of people think highly of that cross. It gives you the brains of the cur and the nose of the plott. They are both gritty so there is no doubt the pups would be. My dad loves those plotts and I my curs but we have never made the cross because we are both too hard headed towards our breed. Alot of what you end up with will probably depend on how good the parents are but in general they should make a good dog.

I have never crossed a plott on a mt cur. But a plott/catahoula cross is my preference for hogs and bear. I have also used plott/bmc crosses with complete satisfaction. I do own straight plotts and straight catahoulas, but only because I have to in order to get the plott/catahoula cross I want.

My opinion is that you tend to get some of the catahoulas brains, agility, quickness, handle, grit, and general athleticism while also getting the plotts nose, endurance, range, and voice. If you get lucky and get one that is close to the right mix of attributes and is also silent on track, then you will truly have a game catching machine.

Of course, it does not work out perfectly where every pup has the exact right mix and is the worlds next perfect dog, but my experience has been that 75 to 80 percent of them will be better than either parent.

I have an 1/4 plott 3/4 kemmer cur that I got from rockcreek as a 10week old pup. Around 9 months old we were walking through the woods as we had done many times and he just disappeared. Minutes later I heard him barking and found him treeded on a sow with cubs. It was the first for both of us and by the time he was a year old he was on #13. A few deer lessons and we both have never looked back. IMO its a good cross.

I have a 1/2 Plott x 1/4 Mt. Curr x 1/4 Kemmer Curr female. She is a go getter. Best feet I've ever seen on a dog. I've raised her from a pup and never seen her sore footed. My buddies turned her in with their pack when she was 6 months old (I had a broken leg and couldn't hunt) and she made every race. Some were 8 and 9 mile hog races. They all want her but, she's my daughters dog and I couldn't part with her if I wanted to. She's just starting to bark treed at 1 1/2 years old. Her mom was a hog dog and a half. She didn't need help to catch one no matter the size and that's what done her in. My female is just like her. I liked it if I heard her bark because she has a distinctive squawly bark and you know she's looking at whatever it is. If it was dark and she couldn't see it she wouldn't bark. But, if it's light and she's barking you can put it in the bank she looking at a bear. Very easy to handle and hunts hard. Ranges out and stops to listen for me coming and when she can see me she moves on.

I also have a 1/2 plott x 1/2 leopard male. He's a rigging, cold trailing, take a track to the depths of hell and back, and sink some ivory type dog. He's lacking on the treeing part but, dang he's a go getter. He takes a cold track like a hound and once it warms up he runs with his head up. He's lighting fast. He opens on track but, doesn't give off a ton of mouth and goes quiet when he's getting close. His feet aren't the best I've seen but, he's always ready to run.
