They are very good radios to use. You DO have to be licensed to use them. The test is 15 dollars and is available everywhere. Just look on the internet. You can take practice test, with the actual test questions at www.qrz.com. The license is valid for 10 years.

I have a Icom ic2200h. I run hire than a marine channal but over all i can pick people up in a 25 mile radius in the mountains
