Garmin Nuvi 500 With TOPO!
Anyone have this GPS system in the truck? If so how well does it actually work? Would be nice to have just in case, or if you're chasing a bear to know a better cut off road. If someone knows anything about it please let me know. Thanks!

They are alright, If you going to get a nuvi, this is the one you'll want.
Topo Maps are the same as the Astros but it's nicer to have a bigger screen when driving.
Does turn by turn, but it's not very good in the woods, Wash outs, Gates, etc can cause you some grief if you follow it too close!
I'll definately be trading in my wifes 160 for this model, since her's doesn't show 1/4 of the roads that these do.
That's just my two cents, I've been using my Dad's while Elk hunting, we were hunting a new area and it was helpful. I still used my astro a sometimes when trying to figure out a couple spots just because it's easier to Pan around on the astro than it is with the touch screen.
It's also annoying that when you zoom out the roads (on both the astro, and the NUVI) go away.. You can only see the roads if your zoomed in with the 24K stuff..

Re: Garmin Nuvi 500 With TOPO!
Yeah Ive noticed that on my buddies Astro. Not sure if Ill spend the money yet on something like this. Seems like one of these days they are going to come out with a really good one that has most every road and is made for more the outdoorsmen. Garmin would be the one I would think would come up with it. If they never do then thats alright, Ive always been fine before and know my way around. Just mind me nice and handy to have at times if you get into new country.
