First snow of the year that I've been able to get out looking for cats. We had a big 8" dump all day and it quit around 11p.m.
Cut this track an hour before first light. Sat on it waiting for my buddy to show after running roads on his sled. Its the first track mine had seen since bears and first winter as mature dogs (18 months)
Cat came down a bank on to a road, over a bridge and straight back up the other side, steep stuff. Let 1 of each of our dogs go, they were moving it well so we let the others join after 10 mins or so.
They took it up through some pretty sketchy bluffs and back in to a ravine that we couldnt climb up. Drove back a couple kms, launched the sled and managed to get above them. They were straight below us 1000', some scary stuff to get to them and worse below where they were. Looks like they ran the cat right to the edge of the ravine and he treed on a unique leaner over a 100'+ drop
We were back at the truck by 9:30 cant complain about that, then ran all day looking for another but no such luck. Good start to the winter thats for sure, good thing too because it was pouring rain by noon.
I hope to see this cat again in a couple years (and maybe once or twice til then!)
