Why do most houndsmen not wear camo?

Just wondering, none of my bear hunting friends wear camo during the kill season either. Mostly jeans or carharts. I wear camo because all my warm clothes are hunting clothes.
My Dad says houndsmen (my Grandpa was a coon/bear hunter with dogs) are a tough breed and aren't affected by the cold like most people. And they wear those Carharts because they last for years, saves money.

When I show up to hunt with my hound buddies, they all look at me funny. Maybe I look like a walking Cabela's Catalog???

I may wear some Carharts and jeans this yr so I fit in better. Still won't make me a houndsman will it?

For me it's because I can't afford it after paying for all the dog crap.. I know if I'm in the store looking at a pair of boots, or a Camo scent locked suit.. Good boots normally get my vote.

I sure do enjoy drooling through that Cabela's catalog though.

Your right, you don't need camo. Guess I thought it would help if the dogs had a bear bayed, I could sneak in better on him.
Mainly though, my cold weather clothes are my camo.

with the noise you make stepping on dry leaves Camo wouldnt help this year at all, we hunt in Blue Jeans and or carhartt bibs.. we save the camo for deer season with the dogs home on the chain

theres a good and bad with that year you could sneak in but teh way camo is made now a days the bear may not see you and thats one thing you dont want running into you

lol I will sometimes wear camo when I am deer hunting but not even that much then lol, if you look at my muzzle loader deer this year in the "other hunting " forum, I wasnt even wearing camo then. Flannel and wraglers. lol I dont think it matters that much if you are sneeky, I was twelve yards from a group of does and some young bucks this year in archery season(junior tags in nevada get to hunt all the seasons) and all I was wearing was my luky 2006 houndsmen BBQ hat and my wraglers and a flannel shirt. didnt notice me till I got up and left. all that matters to me is that I am warm. But I mostly hunt archery and muzzle loader so that doesnt even matter much.

here in the northwest we wear whats warm when cougar hunting...could be camo hunting garb or it could be wool, depends on whats dry in the closet. I know I do not have one set of clothes designated for just hound hunting.

When bear season rolls around there are days I wear camo there are days I wear jeans, again depends on temps. and whether or not its raining.

99% of western houndsmen have a closet full of camo anyway from hunting all the other critters like elk, mule deer etc...so I think the camo issue is a non-point in most circles, its whatever is available and warm. In Buddys case well the man has soo many toys and projects going its no wonder he can not afford camo

In georgia where you can coon hunt every night and temps are more forgiving I can see where camo is not so important. If you want to fit in work with your hound and get him to be the best if he has the ability, don;t worry about what the other guy is wearing be yourself. From one Cabela man to another

Idon't wear my camo because i don't want to wear it out . When cougar hunting in winter my camo would work because most is cold weather clothes.Spring bear hunting is too warm and i wear light clothes.

IN 90% of hunting situations, Camo is a joke. It's the biggest scam on the market. It's not the animals eye's that usually bust you, it's his nose. And since there isn't a product on the market today that can cover your breath and body odor, you're wasting your time with camo if you think it is helping you from being detected.

I don't know about that.. but it feels like they are all widdling down to one big expensive Hobby/Toy.. that is taking over! LOL. My pocket book misses the days of spending 40 bucks in the Bar trying to chase girls with a nice pickup and spending most of my weekends scouting for Deer/Elk.

Now I don't know where the "happening" spots are, that's kinda true for Girls and ELK..

I guess the up side to this new hobby when it comes to ELK/DEER hunting.... I can start to tell how old the tracks are, and how far I'm behind them.. Which is normally pretty Discouraging knowledge!!

Houndsmen don't wear camo, because they don't need to. So why pay the extra $, when it's just going to get all beat to crap anyway. Besides houndsmen as a whole are fairly cheap. You have to be because the dogs themselves cost you major coin. Not to mention all the gear.

I've got a camo jacket that I wear cat hunting and in the winter. But's that's because it's warm and waterproof. When you walk in the brush after a fresh snow you better have a hooded jacket and it better be able to shed water. Otherwise you'll be drenched, and you just might be anyway.
