Never thought I'd experience this, but my "duo" just cought and streched a red fox today. I thought them red ones went under ground at the first sighn of preasure, but it looks like this stupid bugger thought he could fight of a huge chunk of US dynamite....., well his loss..

Another great day in the woods with a slow ass running Majestic

Dont know 'bout that Stan, but things look good, the way I see it.
Been keeping down in the walley hunting deer with my beagle last few days because wolftracks been found close to where I plan to hunt cats. The samipeople found some dead caribue Sunday, so they were given a killing permit from the government. To day state hunters came with a helicopter and killed the wolf on a frozen lake, so tomorrow I'm out looking for cattracks again.

Well, catseason opens in 55 minutes.
I found a cattrack and made a ring around it tonight, so I know where I'm going to start tomorrow. Sad though, that the snow is 5 feet deep and bottomless...., I dont expect much... :( :( But it'll be fun to start the dawgs on that cat and see how it turns out.

Well, I'll tell you what Steve, snowshoes wouldnt help the least bit. I used 36" snowshoes yesterday and waded with snow above my knees the whole day.... An Oxygen tank and a mask would be more suited, my dogs had to swim through the shit :( :(
On top of this it was freezing cold, so cold that my camera and my cellphone stopped working....

So to the hunt.
I soon found out that the cat had left the ring in the least favourable direction possible. It was headed straight into the deep mountains, no roads and were not allowed to use snowmobiles. After checking a few checkpoints I just figured it was time to try something. I tried keeping the track a litle sekret to awoid to many hunters joining in, or shooters as we call them, but they figured out that I was up to something, so I was joined by some gunslingers
I climbed to the top of the mouintain and there another smaller cat had walked into the area in question. It was decided to run this cat and it ran straight down on a shooter and got killed. Nothing to mentione dogwice, but we had cought a cat under impossible conditions.
After gathering up the dogs and climbed back up, I freecasted the dogs in the direction the first cat had moved and not to long after Pacs opened! Pacs and Dina cold trailed, or cold swam I might say, for about 2,5 miles and then they jumped the cat!!! I was standing high above them, on the "edge" of the mountain, so I could see them in my binoculars going downwards after the cat and let me tell you, they looked like otters sliding down that insanely steep, boulder packed mountainside. The cat was bayed to short times, about 8-10 minutes, but the deep snow, 9' boulders and only two dogs made it impossible for them to keep enough preassure on the cat to keep it there and I think I'm glad, because I'm not shure I could have made it down there.... After this the cat jumped down a couple of cliffs, that the dogs had to go around, so the distance between the dogs and the cat increased. Not to long after the cat ran straight on to a shooter and got killed there. A friend of mine was there when the dogs arriwed, so they were praised and give a load of positive words.
So we got two cats in one day, never done here before to my knowledge, but I'm very very sad to say that both cats were killed running..... On the other hand, I'm going to run them under better conditions and then I think the odds could be changed...

Thanks again Steve, for giving me the chance to run such a hound as Pacs, he has given me more good times in the woods than I ever deared to dream of.

- No pictures as of yet, since my camera and cellphone gave in to the conditions. I'll see if some of the other hunters took some I can post later.

Rub is given Steve and the big boy appriciated it.
I can see on the news that you are in trouble on the east coast. Hope you all are safe.

Tell you, this winter has been the worst for running hounds that I can remember since I started running birddogs some 16-17 years ago. Conditions cuts down on the amount of training, but then it gets to be about beeing creative in the search for trainingmethods....

Shure will do Stan, I just realised that I havent got any new hunting pictures of Pac's.
- So I took Pac's out tonight to try and catch a badger thats been outsmarting a buddy of mines dogs lately. Pacs took a trail and after half a mile the speed increased. Pacs bayed the badger in an inseane mase of windfallen spruce trees. It was so tight that Pacs was laying on the side trying to squeze under the logs to get to him. I'll tell you it was so tight I couldnt even find a hole big enough to get a .22 bullet through.... Tried taking some pictures with my old pocketcamera that Steve likes so much, but they didnt turn out. - Imagine that  While I broke branches to get a hole to shoot through, the badger broke and Pacs had to go around, so the badger got to his den before Pacs cought up to him. It was a round bellied hog of a badger, so I'll see if I can get back there shortly and take him. I'll bring my shootgun next time, so I can shoot a hole through the branches and get a clean line of shot.

Yeah, he has and will Steve, but its not only Pacs that has to do his things ringt, I have to do my part right to and there is a lot to learn(and I have to hunt with people looking to hunt bear instead of people tagging along "bearhunting", so they can go into town with wide shoulders bragging about being bearhunters.....).
- Just wish we would get into a big old fighting bruiser of a male bear, that would fight for his ground instead of those never resting, always moving around smaller bears. Those are all about luck. We have to cut the track at the absolute right place to be able to stop them within the areas we are allowed to hunt(our hunting grounds are small patches of land).

Looking good for the Lynx in the coming winter. Sheepfarmers to the north/west of me(those I'm still friends with  ), have suffered big losses to Lynx during the summer, so I wish for early snow.
