No, but it does bring up the point that some lion populations are high enough, that sound wildlife management requires some females be harvested there.

Re: How many Cat's
Yes places like that do exist. I live in one of those areas but i prefer not to kill females because of the female sub quota. Now there are places in the same lion unit Im in that folks are killin females non stop. Not even giving our half of the section to be managed properly.
Now killin cow elk is a WHOLE lot different. They need to be managed differently than lions. I am not a biologist but it would be my guess that for a balanced herd you would have 6 cows to 1 bull. So if you go out and kill 100 bulls and no cows you will be having a whole lot of unbred cows eating a lot of grass. There is no comparison between the two animals. Not sure if it makes since to you but it makes since in my lil head.

So if you go out and kill 100 toms and no females you will be having a whole lot of unbred females eating a lot of deer and elk.
For a trophy elk herd 35-45 bulls per 100 cows would be special.
For lion why not 1 tom per 2-3 females.
In order to sustain that ratio, and a current high population level, you have to harvest females. Plus a certain number of old toms, a certain number of middle class toms and a certain number of young toms. Then you can maintain the high population level you want and the number of Trophy class toms in that population.
That's some pretty intensive management, but I bet another result would be longer seasons due to having to be more selective.
Re: How many Cat's
i have never intentionally wanted to see a cat killed, nor have i ever even bothered putting in to draw a tag. guess i should though to to stop one more cat from being killed. to many cats in my area getting killed already. just this last weekend i turned out on a two day old female track and let my dogs try to work it over the hill. i drove around to the other side to meet them at the road and get them lined out again. while i was waiting a local guiding outfit pulled up asked me what i was doing and shot the breeze a minute next thing i know they hurry over to the next canyon to cut it fresher and bam another female down
any ways sorry to get off track but i can not see why anybody would need to kill more then one or two in there life. rug one body mount the next what more do you need? jmo
never doubt the dogs

You Can Not compare Elk or Deer to Lions! there is more Elk and Deer In one Zone than Than there is Lions in the whole state! if you dont manage elk and deer they would be EVERY where! and if you didnt manage Lions they would Be a problem! I have never killed a Lion one and i dont ever have a single intention on killing a lion. I saw the Number 6 of all time Lion and guess what! it was killed on a guided hunt! but if i saw a cat in a tree that big or bigger ever again i might shoot it! and as far as a name like cat slayer! Mabey he has hound hunting his whole life and killd tons of bobcats. thats a cat right? you just assumed that buy the name he is a lion killing heartless bastard! one thing is guys everyone of on this site have one thing is comon! we are all hound hunters!! may be we have diffrent insite on it but we should for sure be saying some more nicer things about each other and congradulate one another a little more! we dont need to go and give any body a little more fule to fire on shutting down hunting with hounds! so to every man who has a hound and treed something! GREAT JOB!!!! like to see pics weather you killed it or not!!

Re: How many Cat's
I look at everyones points and they are all good! catslayer i understand the situation guides get put in when there boss wants results not management. I believe the main issue here is your states fish and wildlife dept.! They are in charge of managing your states lion population, If you think to many females are being taken then ask your biologist in your area why he is letting this happen. It is every hunters own decision to take or release a cat they tree, If you want to kill a female and its legal go ahead but don't be ashamed, stand behind your decision, don't make excuses, tell someone it was legal and i am proud of it! If your not proud to display it then for goodness sakes don't shoot it! For those others that don't shoot a female Stand proud and know that you have different standards! Each person makes their own decisions, the game dept. manages the population, try and change regulations rather than telling someone what they should or shouldn't do. JMO
