Where's the big'uns??

Is anyone finding big bear this year?? Around here all the big ones are hanging out in the low country where there is very little access. Lots of little ones to chase.... and chase... I think they all got tinna shoes on. The biggest one we caught this year was barely over 200#.

It sure would be cool to see some pix of them big'uns!! If I get one I will sure post it!!

everything around happy camp seems to be small this year too. But they tree. I've only gotten on to one decent one this year that was about 250lbs, but that was after my dogs had put a little one up a tree after a three hour run that day. So didn't catch the big one. They ran him for 4 hours, then fiddled out.

bear small in TN also. Most of them are 125-150pound runners!

That's a great bear 77... You are going to be sorely dissapointed when you get down here... the only thing we got that big for the dogs to run is MOOSE! LOL! Great bear thanks for sharing. Mason

Not many big ones at all this year. Treed a few smaller than the dogs... Like what the heck? Is that a coon? LOL.

Biggest tagged have been around 250-270. Treed one that we treed last year at the first of the season, and he's well over 400lbs. But, no one wanted to use a tag that early and now I don't think we'll get after him. We treed him once last year, and after that he moved outta there, was suprised to see him back around almost in the same area. I'm suprised no one else has tagged him. But he does run into pretty tricky areas, long, and hard, and don't always want to go up and stay up. Gotta have luck on your side, that he feels like treeing that day. LOL.

Thats a nice one there BH77!! What did that dude wiegh??

BTW I heard rumors of bear sitings clear down in the Sacramento Valley where the grizzlies used to rome. It don't surprise me. Tons of acorns down there!! I think that is where all the big ones are.

I heard of a 275 pounder taken this weekend and another that was estimated at 500. Thats good to hear. It sure ain't happening out of my camp!!

We caught up another small one Sat. Spent til noon looking for a decent track, and finally settled for a small one. We got to the tree and it bailed. It treed again and we got to 'em and it bailed again, this time to the up hill side where the dogs were waiting for it. Instead of running it grabbed up my best lead dog Billie and proceeded to kill her, but Angie and Ginger came in and bit its tail, so it let go of Billie and tried to run, but feisty Billie turned right around, snuck in a bit that bear on the nose and would not

let go!! The bear finally got away, broke and ran to another tree where we were able to make it stay.

Just another day of chase 'em little bears!!
BTW Billie came out of it just fine.

I have found a few biguns, but they havn't been anywhere near any roads, we've had do drive to the end and walk the ridges above some roadless country to get to where the big boars seem to be feeding,
it seems that if I have been lucky enough to rig a good one he is already back in the deep stuff before they jump him.
The next plan is to go in to the bottom to start, maybe I'll get lucky and chase his butt, back towards the road.

Yeah, I know I could get on to a big one if I did my favorite walk hunt. Walking in sometimes it the best way, as long as you have the weather, the time and the will.

Here is 250# we put up last weekend. Biggest one I seen all season.

Well, we killed a bear last weekend that was too big to weigh. Had to be cut in sections to move. Craig killed one 488lbs in the 05 season, this one dwarfed it. It took 4 people just to roll him over to gut him.

His head with hide attached weighed 183 pounds. His front foot was 8 inches across, and his hair was so long it completely cover his pads. He was soild dark brown, and had a huge hump on him for a black bear. If I didn't know any better I would swear he looked like he was some type of griz. We didn't get any measurements nose to tail, or his nails. He wasn't nearly as long as he was absolutely heavy, wide and tall.

He didn't tree and killed my Crash dog. The bear was shot in the back of the skull/spine at close range. Not sure if he would have been any type of record, not that any of us really care at this point. Might have been able to appreicate it more had we not lost a dog.
