I think Mike is going off of papers rather than actually seeing these dogs hunt, with possibly the exception of Topper. Just because it came from old so and so or has old trusty in the ped doesn't mean it's gonna be any good. Just because someone claims to be line breeding to old trusty doesn't mean old trusty is contributing anything to said pups. Is it tightly line bred to old trusty and do the pups turn out consistently would be more important. Anything past the third gen in a ped is not making much of an influence, Pacojack seems to miss that all important fact when touting the rebirth of a dog long gone. Far as topper again, Jeff Allen has no problem telling you he prefers Sampson by a landslide. I would hunt with or talk to someone that has hunted with any dog you are considering building a pack around. Be weary of the internet buzz around a dog and those that claim to have something rare, you've got alot more homework to do in the walker breed as the market is flooded with so much junk and alot more guys trying to cash in on the mind boggling popularity.
You see larry, something you don't understand is this is not a weekend play time for me, like it is with you. My dogs must perform. So you can hammer my dogs pedigree all you want but it is still about preformance for me. The pedigree is just the recipe for the for the cake that has proven to be good over and over. It doesn't matter how long the maker of the recipe has been dead, follow the recipe and you get great results.
red&whitewalker, I have read that Jeff's dogs are doing very good up there and also heard good about Andy's dogs up there. I had my Buster dog up in Washington on bear and he did a very good job but I never had him on any cats(up there) so I don't know what he would do. I don't have anything out of my breeding for sale and won't have for awhile that I am planning. My next 2 females to be bred have already been booked. Keep us posted on what you get and how it does. Good luck to you.
