A nice tom

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

My life long hunting partner took the long 14 hour drive to come up for his first lion hunt. In all these years he has never been hound hunting but with a bit of time this week and me with out a paying hunter the timing was right. The first day out we cut a good tom track. We put a Rudy,Burger down on the track and he led his Karilean dog on a leash. They took the track 4 miles over ice, frozen hard snow and some deep stuff as well. We left the track for the next day as it was getting late. The next morning I threw in my walker pup to join in as she has yet to see a lion hit the ground. We cut the tom track a couple miles farther along the river and put the dogs down, not a peep out of the dogs, a little strange. in 5 minutes all hell broke loose and the lion was treed. A real nice tom 185 pounds and a green skull of 15 4/16. My buddy could not be happier. The cat treed low and was really pissed so we got a show, getting the hounds off the tree made him a little nervous as he was sure the cat was going to eat me. :D Anyhow a great day spent with a good friend and a nice tom to boot.

That hairy tail thing is my buddies Karelian who was walked in on a leash and let go after the jump. It treed hard for about2 minutes then went on a walk about to find something interesting.

Doug,

Is that small spotted dog in front of the black dogs part beagle?

I know some guys in Arizona that run a few that look like that and the do pretty well on lion with them.

Mike, she is a grade walker with a little bluetick way back, just enough to leave a few blue ticks. At 7 months I am happy with her progress, not a world beater but staying with the big dogs and pulling a little hair.
