It just snowed a foot! tell me what to do?
Well guys it just snowed a foot! and its dang cold... we dont get snow like this in fact it was 97 the last time it it was this bad. Im excited! the last time we saw lion tracks was sunday, and we saw what I thought was a mom and cubs Saturday. To be honest we saw so many tracks that the cub mite be a coyote, Im just not good enough to tell. and then we saw fresh tracks over our tracks on the way out, and we tossed over weather they were coyotes or lion but coyotes are smaller im pretty sure. anyway there is one lion because the trappers showed us its track last Thursday. Im learning. If you read my last post my dogs never hit a bobcat that we saw (they didn't) but they only barked on where he was laying 10 minutes after it ran off. that Friday the wind blew 35 with gusts of 40 we tried to hunt but that was short lived. Saturday at first lite we saw the tracks and started following them (the dogs did nothing) but after 4 0r 500 yards one started barking so we followed him another 500 yards to the side of the cap (wind was 18 mph) he would go crazy on the side then he would get to the top in the wind and do nothing he went back down barked then went up and nothing after 10 minutes he gave up and moved on. So a friend in here got me in touch with a guy and Im going to buy his dog I cant wait I hardly sleep this last week lol and im 30 (just like a kid in a candy shop) anyway the guy wants me to drive and hunt with him and hopefully come down here in a month or 2. He hasn't called yet he said he had to guide this week and would call when he fills his tag (im sure he will) All that said do you think I am wasting my time going in the snow with my dogs. none of them are "lion" dogs they made that clear to me last week I did get another dog that was on a few bear last year and "said to be on bobcats" I dont know. So am I wasting my time ?? thats the big question! should I wait on the real lion dog or drive an hour walk a few miles in the snow freeze my tail off and try my luck. Do you think the dogs will trail a snow track???

When it comes to lion hunting the number one rule in my book is "be persistent." You will not be able to get a lion caught sittin at home waitin for some help. I know cause I use to have all the excuses. Not that I catch all the time now but I hunt all the time and that really helps
.
You have the best conditions to start you and your dogs out. If you have alot of roads there drive them looking for a track. If you find a track take the next road in the direction the lion is traveling and see if you cut it again. Do this till you stop cutting the track. Then go back to the last track. Take one maybe two dogs and start walking the track. I would keep the better dog on a leash until he is with out a doubt going to take the track. No matter what happens stay on the lion track. Stay on the track till you are looking at what made them.
Sounds easy but you have your work cut out for you. Remember very few lion hunters started off catching lions. You are at the begining of a long trail with lots of ups and downs. And I dont mean ridges and canyons
. Just keep pushing its just a little pain for a lifetime full of memories.
Good Luck, Joe

well it depends how serious you are about hunting hounds if you have dogs you may as well go and hunt them if you can cut a track and shorten it up then walk them down it till they take it or not you mite kick it up trailing it yourself and then maybe theyll run it for you my opinion is if you own hounds you shouldnt worry about wasting your time with them you should worry about wasting your time not hunting them
