I've noticed for quite some time that it appears that there are more female dogs being sold then male dogs. So I went back to Jan 1 of this year and counted all the dogs being sold, exluding pups. I came up with 56 females and 35 males being sold since Jan 1.
When I ran females and males, I always seemed to lean towards the male dogs but not for any real reason. I had some great female dogs along with my males.
Anyone want to take a stab at why so many more adult dogs being sold are females? Makes you wonder.

Re: Male vs. Female
As the more time i spend with dogs i have noticed that it seems that the females are more consistant with calculating things. slowing down when they need to ect. for the most part with males that i have seen they seem to be big strong and fast but dont take the time to slow down and figure stuff out as much especially the uncut studd dogs they are as head strong as they come. I have a little male but he will be the last male pup i get and from here on out its gonna be all females. For the bobcat hunting i do i need a dog that can figure out all them damn tricks these cats do and if it takes them slowing down well thats great but dont just blow by it and go searching for something new to run. I think that females learn faster and it does not take them alot of time to figure things out once it has happened before. thats just one young pups opinion but im stickin with it.
Re: Male vs. Female
to me a female usually is easer to train faster to learn easer to handle and listens better the male is bigger badder faster i usually have females butt if u get a good male i think it can be 10 times the dog cant beet a real good male

Re: Male vs. Female
Interesting post. I recently bought a pup that came from a litter of 10 where half were male and half were female. The females sold faster than the males. Currently I have all females. I think they handle easier, train quicker and have a consistent disposition.

Re: Male vs. Female
females have less on their mind constantly then a male, they really only worry about mating for a short time each cycle. they also tend to bond with the pack leader "you" better since it's in their better interest. a uncut male is testing your dominance in small ways constantly especially when you hunt from a truck quad etc. as your not"running with the pack". I do agree a male that doesn't exhibit any of the bs male tendencies is a hound who usually stands out. As to why more females are being sold many hunters want the muscle power of a male pack and find that they hunt a bit better with males they are familiar with and females in the pack cause contention and unrest. also many females are bred and hopefully the better ones although this limits their hunting time which puts a strain on their bodies and experience in the field. I believe in breeding only the very best female and only once every other year at the most with foresight not to limit her time hunting. I know that many may feel thats not the way to go but I do. Then there's less males per litter on average and I have experienced that their longevity is slightly less then the females. males may also exhibit tendencies more frequently that results in their being c@11ed.

Re: Male vs. Female
I've never had/seen any issues with my dogs about the females being easier to train then the males.. Actually it seems that the males start faster then the females do.. I've seen just as many really nice males as I have really nice females.. Actually, to be truthful, I have seen more really nice males then females.. But that could be because the crowed I used to run around with prefered the males...
I always lean towards the males myself.. That being said I hate the male peeing on everything.. Drives me nuts... I bleach their igloos at least one a year because they always want to pee on their houses.. or water buckets or anything else they can aim at... I hate the kennel smell of male dogs.. So I'm starting to keep more females around for that reason.. I still see just as many "alpha" females as I do males... So I actually would prefer to keep the males... I'm at 2 males and 2 females right now..
We've had a couple litters over the years and we never have even close to the amount of females that I could get rid of... Last year we raised 13 pups.. only 4 where female and they stayed with us.. I could have sold 13 females no problem..
I know people say that it is easier to take your top notch female and find a top notch male to breed her to, but... I also don't find that true... I have one that other then my male.. I haven't found one I would cross her on... Maybe I'm just not impressed easy...
I don't know.... I like a nice male dog.. I might just keep one in the kennel at a time from now on... but that one is always going to be the one I like the most...
So why are their more females beng sold when everyone seems to prefer the females? Good question... You would thnk everyone would be keepng their females..

I don't have a real preference. But, as stated above, I think that you can't beat a real solid bad-to-the-bone male dogs. They look good, they are just tough hounds that will outlast a female...JMO
Re: Male vs. Female
Out of all the TOP dogs I know of or have seen, I can probably count on one hand the ones that were females.
Good dogs yes, top dogs not quite.
I'll take any dog that can run, doesn't matter to me. BUT it's a tough to keep a bunch of dogs around that you know are going to have to be shelved for 2-3 weeks in a 16 week bear season in WI. Or even worse come in during our short 1 month or so cat season.

Re: Male vs. Female
I have always preferd females for cat hunting and males for bear hunting.Always thought the females worked harder on cat maybe less distractions.Liked the males muscle on bear. But I have seen oustanding female bear dogs and outstanding male cat dogs.Have noticed it seems to make some difference the bloodline of dogs your hunting weather the females or males do better in certain situations .
