Which line of plotts has the most grit. i would like some dogs that are out to pull alot of hair and hold the bear til i can shoot him?

Shrek there are several lines out there that have good grit and mental toughness.
You wont find other strains that are tougher mentally and physically than the Nabek and Ursus dogs ( not saying others are not just as capable ) .heard great about the Shamrock and crocket lines also .Where do you live ?
There are other lines I am sure but just some starters.

I like my Allison bred plott. He's got alittle more grit than I like. He may not be around this time next year if he catches like he did last year at 1 year old. I have witnessed him jump up and meet a bear coming down the tree, jerk him off the tree and roll down the mountain fighting. If the bear had been a wise old bear that dog would have been dead. Lucky for him it was only a 150 lb young bear. BUT, in the same breath I have saw him set back and bay a 300 lber until it turned it's butt to him and he ran in for a nip and back out. Maybe he's got more brains than I'm giving him credit. I'm still waiting on Mr. Allison to give me a call that he has pups because I'm getting acouple more from him. He's in Eastern North Carolina. They go back to the Ferguson dogs.

I live in Taylor county in wisconsin. i have heard alot about ursus plotts and pochantas plotts. i am looking for what people like best but i really like dogs that have a good head on their shoulders and the grit to hold him there too. thanx for your replies. i have been looking around for a good line of grit for a while now

It is true most Plotts..

A very key line is missing that has not been mentioned and that is the Cajun line. I don't think if we didn't get our Lonesome female from Mike Cauley dad and I would not have fallen for the Plotts as hard as we did. We bred her to 3 males from different backgrounds, with the exception of Dirty Deeds who is a son of Bloody Bill, and all the pups were fantastic dogs. She was bred to one of the males (Bloody Bill) three times and every pup turned out. She was bred to Socki once and gave us some of the most amazing dogs, one of which I still own and will own till she dies (Copper). She was bred to Dirty Deeds once and again gave us some of the best dogs, three of which we raised for a long time, one we still have who I am keeping till she dies also (Shuttah).

Without her, I don't think we would have enjoyed the Plott breed as much as we do.

With that said, Thank you Mike! Lonesome was crippled on the first bear of the season 3 years ago, one of her first bears ever seen, and she is worth her weight in gold for the puppies she has given us.

I'd have to say my Pokiewantus dogs have done very well for me!!

If I remember correctly Zeluva, Ole' Bloody Bill was a Great one for you as well, and he was straight from Gene Walker's Pocahontas Cody II. With his Momma being a very good coon dog named Mississippi Mud Dozer.

RigDawg ~ What's gotten you so turned away from the Crockett Line?

Hunter ~ You're right Marion has some outstanding dogs as well!! I wouldn't hesitate sending anyone the Allison bred Plotts way either.

Bloody Bill was a great dog, but dad and I both believe that his pups were just as good if not better then him.

There is more to good dogs then just hunting abilities, our Lonesome dogs could have been the worst hunting dog on the planet, but because of her puppy baking abilities be the most precious dog to us.

Most dogs can not produce greater then themselves, I think the Plotts have a greater chance of the pups being better then the parents in most cases

I would have to agree with hunter. The Alisson bred plotts are some of the grittiest I have seen. You cannot leave out Weems breeding.
