? mike leonard cat training

Post by catenaround »

i am starting a pup from the beging on mikes cat training methadd. just wanted to do it a new way. she is jeff alens trucker dog on both sides. my ? is am i makeing the hotdog drags to easy . i take to the woods on the snow make first drag real easy 20 to 30 yards in the open she burns it up. i then make them harder. on the snow she rarely acts like she has to work to find the prize. i drag over logs though the brush with it to the tree were i put the prize just high enugh she has got to get on the wood to get it.shes only 14weeks old the drags are less than 50 or 60 yards long she always finds it sometimes she will over run it but normily will come back to the drag line with out my help. thanks Richard

At 14 weeks sounds like she is doing great. The thing I have learned with my 2 pups is make sure they don't get board with it, keep makeing longer drags. Another thing is to use cat scent for the drag then put your treat in the tree. If she is doing so good at a young age let her run, she has the nose let her use it and introduce the scent you want her to run and she will take it from there. Just my 2 cents, I pushed my pups a little hard at first a have learned that may not have been the best route for them. Anyway good luck, and good huntin.

Sounds like she is doing great but then again you can't miss with that breeding.

Get away from the drags as soon as you can with her. Make the tiny scent tracks and tap the bushes , rocks and logs, but I get away from dragging anything along on top of the ground as quickly as I can. I do not call this method scent drags because I don't drag anything. Only snakes gators, porkupines and beaver do much dragging and I don't want nothing to do with any of them. LOL!
