I thought you knew all about Kemmers. I think you are the guy who said the only place they had any grit was in the dog box. And unless I am mistaken you said they were no good for bear. If I am mistaken I apologize.

for a true answer I would go to TEXASBOAR.com and read it a couple days and I think you will see it is the black mouth cur and the Cathonda is the lead dog on hogs ,I know tn is where Robert Kemmer is from also the Plotts started in that area and Western n.c.
Texas has the hogs in the millions.

Try a Striker bred Kemmer if you want a cold nose. why would you want a cold nose pig dog?

My Uncle, my Dad, and I all hog hunt. We hunt together and seperate. My Uncle and I lean toward Plotts, and my Dad is a BMC man. I know this will cause an argument, but I will just tell what I have seen after chasing these hogs around for several years.

The Plotts are better at finding and the curs are better at baying(in a nut shell). Occasionally we will find one (hound or cur) that is good at both. The best all-around hog dog I have ever been hunting with was a half breed. I am going to raise a litter myself next year.

It's funny when we hunt together. I put a Plott on a cold track and bay the hog four hours later and tell Dad "let's see your yellow dogs do that"! He gets one bayed up with curs and they are circling and hammering every breath and he says "let's see them long-eared SOB's of yours do that"!

I love both breeds as long as they will go to a hog. Personally, I would rather have a strike dog than a bay dog. I don't care if they are silent or not as long as they are trying to get the meat.

I've hunted with guys that loved dogs because of the "way" they hunted (long range, silent, etc.) If he can't get the meat by any means necessary, I won't feed him long. I asked my Uncle once, how is Ole Harry doing? He said, "He hunts damn good, he just don't find nothing".LOL. He didn't stay around too long.

I think it is easier for hound guys to use curs than it is for cur guys to use hounds. Just what I have seen.

I am a hog hunter from Texas and have owned a lot of cur dogs and crosses. The worst is the catahoula then black mouth and mountain curs are the best. This is just what I have experienced. I have actually never seen a good catahoula woods dog but I know their has to be one out their. I have seen some really good black mouths in fact if you find a really good black mouth they are usually better than the mountain cur. The reason I say mountain curs are best is because the majority of them I have had worked they bay hogs and most importantly hunt, however about half of them are open. I will say the best hog dogs I have raised are 1/2 mountain cur 1/4 english pointer, 1/4 walker.
