Bobcat or Gray Fox

Post by Trueblue »

I'm not a cat or fox hunter but I was just wondering which of these two critters is harder to tree on a consistent basis ?

I was told by a buddy that hunts Gray Fox that they are good climbers and can be treed by dogs routinely.

That was the same question I had until he showed me pictures of Gray Fox sitting up in the tree with the dogs under them.

depends on the terrain, and conditions. percentage wise I have better success on grey fox than bobcats. both run a great race.

Grey fox climb, Red fox don't. Its about a wash as to which is easier to tree between bobcats and grey fox. Generally, it takes a little speedier dog to catch grey fox than cats. Fox have quite a bit more bottom than cats. Cats are a little harder to trail and are trickier when jumped. If I had to say if a tough cat or a tough fox was harder to catch I'd lean toward the fox just because a slower dog that can hold a track and run it steady will eventually catch most cats but that same dog isn't going to catch some of those tough fox without speed. I run both.
