Pegleg,
Very Good information and defining what make a "Bobcat" Hound! You know that country well and articulate what works for anyone to understand.
You can give us a very good book once you have the time!

Re: ? About huntin bobs
ok a little more az can and does offer some tough conditions this year has been the easiest year I've ever seen here. it's hard work for the hounds. I once took a young hound from here to eastern co. he was doin ok but not shining it was about 12 degrees and one of those quiet nights where nothing was happening. we went out at 9:30 pm on the walker ranch found a ol crusty track that hound trailed and treed that cat over five miles in a sandstone cave. he took a bad track and moved it he just couldn't really get a hard running cat pinned down he wasn't a slow track hound but wouldn't drift he had to unravel each loss one at a time. this makes for a good lion dog but wont catch very many bobcat here. I n answer to your specific mention of walkers I have not had one pure bred walker that really got it done. I haven't hunted every strain out there and have heard good things about them just haven't seen it work here. honestly they have to be doing something or there wouldn't be so many running them and singing them praise. I will admit I DO NOT have the perfect breeding for it and am always looking for a better combo that breeds true and produces a decent percent of catdogs. THANKS CJC

Very good observation Pegleg! As well as plain language that one could understand.
There is a vast deferent’s between the type of hound that will make a great bobcat dog and one that will make a great lion dog. I myself Have dog’s that can catch a few bobcat. But they don’t catch enough, for me to call them bobcat dogs. But that’s not what I use my dog for anyways. Bobcat are a challenge even for the men the have great bobcat dogs. If I was to just stick to bobcat hunting. I would most definitely seek out the best hunter in my area and learn what brand of hound works for him, for the conditions you are hunting in… That being said, not all dogs, handle the same. Are you a versatile enough dog handler to change your style to get the most out of the these type of hounds?

Hey guys, next time it looks like you lost your post, try this. Go up to your browser bar and hit the back button a few times until the window comes up with a RETRY button. Click retry and your "lost" post will come up. Then just click on submit. So, far has worked everytime for me.
Mr. CJohn, if those Colorado hounds came from a guy in Bayfield, well then, they couldn't catch a lion here either!LOL

Liontracker,
Since the story is second hand to me, albeit a reliable second hand, I have purposely omitted the name.
If the fellow is on here maybe he will come on and tell us the "Paul Harvey" rest of the story!
How are the Pups coming along? Come see us! We will then go down to BigNBlues and harrrass him.

CJC - the pups are great, 4 weeks and shaping up to be knockouts in the looks department. Now if only they will hunt!LOL
I think BigN'Blue could use a little harassing right about now.

Re: ? About huntin bobs
I agree that time in the woods is the true answer when hunting bobs. I hunted in Southern California for year (until there were to many people) and we would not get rain from Mid March to November so I think I know about dry ground. We had Walkers, Blueticks and a Black & Tan and they were all there at the end. So get a dog you like and spend a lot time, as much as you can, in the woods.
