Howdy from Arizona, need hunting partner

Post by Az.huntress »

I totally understand why folks don't want to hunt with strangers (myself included) and especially a woman who might show up in high-heels and pink pants (NOT ME!!). Just to set your mind at ease (I hope) I will explain why I am looking for a new hunting partner. I have always hunted, as I was fortunate enough to have been raised in a hunt-for-food home. My sister married a guy in the mid 70's who had a very good pack of hounds in Washington, and that's when I got into dogs. I was lucky enough to hunt with those dogs and a few of my own that were tough on bobs. We occasionally cut a lion track in the snow too, and chased blackies in the summer for fun. We only coon hunted when we had pups to train. I quit the hounds and got heavy into bird dogs in the late 80's, but never forgot the bawl of a cold trail. In 2008, my husband and I moved to Az. so he could be warm and I could hunt my dogs. We met in the '70's with littermate walker females. He quit hunting all game about 10 years ago, and that left me hunting with my son, who guides in Idaho and sometimes Nevada (catslayer). My son had some time off about 4 winters ago so I headed to Idaho to run some tracks with him, just for fun. After 3 days of a great time with him and his boss, I found myself with a walker pup slipped under my coat as I was leaving. The bug had bitten, and I was re-hooked! I have that good male, and 3 young females that have strong points but so far none do it all. That's what I want to work on. They need game. I need help learning new country and finding someone who doesn't mind getting up in the dark to run dogs or look for them. I'm in decent shape to walk, and am 54. My BS days are behind me, but I still enjoy a cold beer. My husband is a dandy and he is happy when I get to hunt. Anyone want to go?? Retired, have dog box, will travel!

I know there are doggers right next door to you maybe they'll speak up I am across the state from you. I am in the process of moving . however if I can help out let me know. you might really consider getting some form of transportation horse, mule, atv, bike, etc. one of the most convincing arguements for it is bees! I have had some close calls with them and if your already worn down from walking your sprint speed may not be enough. you can and do cover a extreme amount of ground as the cat density is lower then most places. good luck

Thanks Pegleg. I have horses, and a Honda quad that goes good. I have a stock trailer to haul in if I'm going for a day trip somewhere, and a trailer that I fixed up to sleep in the front that is a 3 horse. It can carry the Honda and 1 horse if I load it right. I just got back from Roosevelt Lake, but ran into lots of cholla. The dogs came back full in both races that I got. It was ugly! Where are you moving to? Out of State??

I have a littermate to your male dog there, out of Mary and Chance. Jesse tells me that you like him really well, sounds like he's doing good. I like mine too, he has become a pretty decent bear dog. I almost sold him last year but after he did so well in the fall I was glad I didn't. He isn't scared of bear.

I will look forward to meeting your littermate to my male I call "T-Rex". Is yours a good looker too? T has great feet and is built strong. I am heading to Idaho this week. I just purchased some land for summer living in Grangeville. Jess and I are partnering up on it. Since he has extensive log house building experience, it's time he makes one for his MOM! ha ha.

The male I have is a nice hound. Big, tall hound with a lot of white. Fast too. I'd like to see T, I'm sure he's a nice one. I would have like to get my hands on the other two males out of that litter... but it wasn't meant to be I suppose. I had one of the females as well but she didn't make the cut.

Heck, I don't think she'd make you work on it during bear or cat season...
