Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
Hello. Were looking for a little female pup with similar breeding to our male duke. He just turned 3 years old and he is coming along to be our top dog. Were not much into walkers but this boy can straight catch bear and is changing our mind a bit so were going to try and get a female. We want her parents to be bear dogs but big game dogs are also fine. Thanks for reading.

Re: Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
Well what breeding are oyu talking about exactly?
The coondog side or the big game side?
His top half is all competition bred, his bottom side is big game bred.
It's going to be hard to find another bred just like him, and even harder to find another like him, if you don't know what side of the breeding his "good" is coming from.
I would pick one side of his pedigree and try doubling up on it, and not get another thats all over the board and breed them, byt that time you'll have not idea where any of the traits came from.

Im not sure which one to go with. I think a Marosok or a allen bred. Also been thinking about your cross as well, since your so close to us and you wont be breeding till next year and the father will be renegade and i really like him. How many pups are you going to be booking?

I think I would be safe to say his biggame ability more than likely comes from your dogs mothers side.

Re: Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
I wouldn't bet anything came from what side. I'd say about 75% of the Walker dogs out here are Harry/Sackett bred. And they make big game dogs. I've had a couple Nance/Allen bred dogs from Utah and none were worth the bullet. That said, I don't have Harry or Sackett bred dogs either. Everyone has a different style.
I would bet he got a good combination of both sides. But a dog like that is gonna be hard to breed and predict what he'll reproduce.
I doubt a pup from me would cross well, but then again you never know. I can't guarantee a pup from my cross will be worth feeding, but I know what I'm aiming for.

Re: Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
How ever way it goes, every dog in his litter that went to hunting homes made dogs. Like i had said in my first post im not walker person by no means but this boy is making me think, i wish my little female would of lived long enough to see what she could of done on bear. I would just like to give the walkers a chance and not rule them out just yet.

Re: Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
Well it all comes down to what exactly makes him such a good dog. What qualities those are, and try and track it down, and be sure you breed him to something similar.
Just remember if it ain't white it ain't right. Many of people have seen the light.
But then again if everyone owned walkers, there wouldn't be much game left.

redwood did you see the
wink sign, just having a little fun. As for Topper Again, Jeff Allen bought and raised him as pup he has no Allen hound blood in him. But if he did that wouldnt be a bad thing as Jeff has produced alot of nice hounds. later, Andy

Re: Looking for a dog similar to this breeding
Twist - I can't say how exactly mine were bred, I don't remember. None were direct from the source, but heavy bred that way. They were older hounds as well. That being said no older hound I have ever gotten has suited me. Had I gotten a pup out of that line, who knows!
Sounds to me like Topper Again is doing well, maybe one day a few pups will make ut out this way.

don't be afraid to cross that dog with one of your own good hounds (regardless of breed). you know how the saying goes, PAPERS DON'T CATCH OR PUT BEARS IN TREES.

Might talk to my Uncle, he was trying to push a couple young dogs on me tonight when I called trying to get him to sell Hunter back to me. Not what I'm looking for. He's not gonna budge on selling that dog either.
