Javier Esquivel...209 area code...dog stolen????

Post by Liz ODell »

Not sure of the spelling on the name, from a 209 area code. Does anyone know how to get ahold of him? Some friends of mine were hunting and found a tracking collar hanging in a tree with a note from some person who said they had found the dog and it was starved and dehydrated (blagh, blagh, blagh the usual crap) and that they were taking it to an animal rescue in town (High Sierra Animal Rescue I believe). My friends tried to call the numbers on the collar but they were all disconected, they said the note was dated and the collar had apparently been hanging there for a couple days, they left it there. I did not have time to contact the animal rescue to day to see if someone really brought in the dog. This is in northern California. Does anyone know this Javier guy? He is not from this area and there are 5 billion out of area hunters hunting around here anymore and there were a bunch of hounds abandoned here last year (and please anyone reading this that is hunting in this area please have some respect for the locals...houndsmen, bears and public...we wouldn't come to your place and do the kind of crap thats going on around here these days, people never used to mess with hounds around here but people are beginning to get a REALLY BAD impression of houndsmen around here lately), so not sure what is going on with this if that collar is dead or what but if his dog was taken I would like for him to be able to get it back (and for the person that removed the dogs collar and the dog to be prosecuted). Also old Arnie our Governer just passed a law making it a misdemeanor to remove a hunting dogs tracking collar. If I get any more info. I'll add it later.

This guys dog is at animal control and is going to end up getting adopted out, nobody knows him? I have told animal control there is an owner but with no way to contact him what can they do? Not sure why he is not looking for his dog as I have not seen any lost dog signs posted and not seen it posted on the internet.

Now for my bitch, there are some basically abandoned hounds around here right now, there is another one at animal control with a collar AND tracking collar but NO NAMEPLATES! It has been there for a while, they are trying to hang on to it in case someone finally gets a signal on their collar and comes to pick it up. I have a theory on whats going on around here, there are 5 billion hunters, most are guiding (October 28th and try to find a bear track around here anymore...ha! Maybe I can get some dogs that run those post mortem bears) and they are hunting while the deer season is still open, so in order to get alot of dogs out to catch their clients bears and not get a ticket for getting caught with more than one dog per hunter out during the deer season they are not running nameplates on their dogs during the deer season. They are also either abandoning dogs completely (hey guys if you have a dog thats not working out please have the testicles to do the right thing, hell I'm a woman and mine are big enough to take care of it) or simply hunting them with no nameplate and no tracking collar and not doing such a hot job of finding them.
WOW...what a bunch of sh%t!
Local people here used to not give you too much crap about hound hunting around here but I am seeing that begin to change with every abandoned dog and every shot to crap bloody 80 pound bear on the back of a dog box parked in front of the Safeway store.
I have heard alot of talk from other hunters about the need to starting placing restrictions on guides and out of state hunters and I'm sad to say that I now 100%agree. After all I think this kind of crap is what started the other states into placing restrictions on other hunters. If we don't clean this kind of crap up pretty soon NO ONE will be hunting in California. (and yes I realize there are some California people that are just as guilty but most people will not crap their own bed and the majority of the problem is coming from out of state and from guides)

Anyway, if someone knows this guy please get ahold of me!!!!!!!! I would like for him to get his dog back, every time someone gets away with taking a hound out of the woods they are just that much more certain to do it again......and next time it could be your dog. And no I'm not saying this dude abandoned his dog, there are 2 seperate things I'm talking about here.

Also if you lose a dog you need to get on Craigslist and PetFinders, also check out Petharbor, you can post and search to and through thousands of animals shelters and rescues. Putting an ad in the local paper would also be a hot idea. Hope all you that lose dogs this year have a happy ending, and if you catch the sob prosecute them! Every time someone does that it sends out a message that dog theft is just that...theft. It just makes me sick to my stomach to see someone lose one like that.

Liz,
I know a couple people people that live in the 209 area, and a couple that hunt there from time to time. I'll call them in a couple hours and find out if they know him. Thanks for doing this, I know if it were my dog I'd appreciater your efforts.

It appears I have found the owner.......hopefully everything works out as the dog has been at the shelter longer than 5 days. What a great tool 'Google' can be...at least when you have the correct last name of someone with a unique name, found quite a few and made calls til I got the right one with a working phone number this time.

I guess he did put an ad on Craigslist, I looked through when I first heard about this but must have missed it (or some animal rights freak flagged it and got it removed). Anyway he came up and got his dog back today.....turns out the dog was microchipped and Animal Control never scanned him for one........they admitted it to him on the phone.....so I guess we'll all see where this little rabbit hole leads    .

Actually Liz ~ The law says that it's a violation for ANYONE to remove THE COLLAR (any type) from a hunting dog WITHOUT THE WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE DOG'S OWNER, and this could be punisheable as a misdemeanor crime. See Bill # below.

AB 1442 (Huffman) will make it unlawful to remove a collar from a hunting dog in the field without written permission from the owner. This could be punishable as misdemeanors on the first offense, with violators facing a possible six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

I just saw this post of yours. There's a guy up here by me named Rick Esquival. I hope it wasn't his dog.

Take it easy!

Not surprised they didn't scan for a micro-chip, I will be surprised however if he gets his dog back without it being neutered first, and he'll have to foot the bill.

Liz, you went above and beyond in your efforts to help this person and are to be commended for all of your efforts. There aren't many people who would have done all that you did.
Folks, this woman showed us all how we should conduct ourselves.Once again, Liz,job well done!
