Lion track ? ?

Post by The Vise »

I have never found a lion track before on my own but I am hoping I finally have! I set out this morning and this is what i found. Just not too sure of myself so looking for confirmation if this is a cat or not. Is 3 3/8" wide and just a bit less then that long.

Yeah, that is a lion track. Notice the three dimples in the pad on the top picture.

That bottom pic shows it real well, it's a cat. I read somewhere that if you can draw an X above the bottom pad and the lines don't touch the top pads that it is a dog/coyote. IF the top lines of the X hit the toe pads then it's most likely a cat. Small cat based on your measurements though. So did ya chase it or what?

Cool, how long was the stride length? Dogs will almost always show claw prints. My hounds will tell me if it's a dog's or cat's track. Hopefully you'll show us some pics of the tree!

Thanks for the confirmations! No i didnt chase it. Just set out to find a track is all. I dont think the pursuit season starts here for another couple weeks either. Plus I lost my Garmin last month and have no money for another tracker so I gotta wait to cut the dogs loose. But i am excited! I found what i was looking for today. Also cut a bobber on the way out.

Dogs almost always have claws and you can see that the hair from the cat in one of those bottom pictures pushes the snow away because of the fur on its feet

If that track was where you said it is I am pretty sure that you can run it, as that would be harvest objective and the quota hasn't been met yet. I didn't know that there were any left in that unit, thought that the local "guides" had killed ever last 90 lb female. This snow gives me the jitters.
