If she is around other females all the time she should be going in and out unless there is something medically wrong. Maybe your friend is just not paying much attention or maybe the female is having what we call a silent heat, no swelling. You should see if he will let you kennel the bitch at your place for a few months.

We have thrown females in with other females in heat and have had some success bringing the others in when close enough to their normal cycle. My Jazz female went into heat 2 weeks ago, I now have 3 females in heat

would it be bad to just kennel the two you want to breed together? I dont really have much experience with this, but I would think that if he didnt notice she was in heat then the male would lol.

not a bad idea josh except I have seen females get aggressive with males that are constantly sniffing around until they are actually ready. I would not think twice about kenneling the two side by side though

I have a female that does just like Spanky says she will eat him alive if I leave them alone although he don't mind but if I'm in the kennel she acts like a puppy and lets him have his way? lol.........

just a theory

but I know that female human athletes often stop getting their cycles when they are in serious training. Perhaps she is hunting hard when she would otherwise come into heat? Perhaps he could lay her up for a few weeks before she is scheduled to come into heat based on the last time she actually came into heat...
if she is coming into a "silent" heat, one way to check is to take her temperature daily. Females' body temp rises slightly when they are ovulating. She should be receptive for a week or ten days after the temperature rises.
If he knows a vet with ultrasound capabilities, he shold get her checked out. All kinds of minor problems can develop--cysts, etc--which can be diagnosed relatively inexpensively and safely with ultrasound. Your typical country vet doesn't have that, but any larger vet hospital would have the machine.

they can give a shot, but it is expensive, and not very good for the bitch. They would need to do a thorough work-up first to rule out problems that could be made worse by the hormones in the shot.

It's Gods way of telling you guys don't breed Redbones  Sorry Ike I couldn't help myself and to be honest you left yourself wide open for it.
Sometimes those female just shut down, I have one here that is like that. They say after 5 a male starts to shut down, the semen count isnt as high so it makes perfect sence to me that it can and does happen to a female also.
Alot of times in horses if you don't breed them they will start to shut down too. :D

I think you need to read it again.
We have one of the top reproductive vets in the country right here in Utah his name is Dr Carl Pew his number is 801-255-5395 give him a call and see what he says on the subject.
I am sure that he will tell you as I did ...God or evolution ...what ever you want to call it is trying to move on from it's mistakes
