Dead Lion
Yesterday I found this female dead in a little cave. I know I read a post awhile back that discussed lion kills vs. other predetors. Thought it might be interesting what every one thought might have happened here. I know these pictures don't tell the whole story.
I have my own assumptions but maybe someone wants to take a stab at it.

Re: Dead Lion
I'm interested to hear what guys think...I found a bobcat today on a SWA area that was eaten up pretty good but stuffed into a hole as well...I'm sure bobs are found like this more often....

I'm pretty certain not the result of tranq/ collar program gone bad. Hopefully them researchers wouldn't proceed to eat out the a%s after they killed the cat, lets hope not anyway!liontracker wrote:Casualty of the tranq and collar program?
On a more serious note the cat actually packed the collar with her for almost a year.
No grizz, and suposidly no wolves in this part of the country, mabey just a black bear or two.Big Mike wrote:Since your in Grizz country i guess a grizz! or maybe wolfs?

Re: Dead Lion
Where is the head? What about old age? Do you think a scavenger just found it and started to feed? I have found a few over the years laid over like that under trees and rocks, where the ground was dry, and thinking back the last 2 were both females.
What brought you up to the cave?

Re: Dead Lion
Well the front of the face is buried like a cat is trying to bury a kill...maybe it was another female and her kittens were the ones that fed from the back...
How did you come up on it?

Re: Dead Lion
Probably one of those big western bobcats... we've all seen how they can pull down a deer 3x their size why not a lion.
Seriously, if you found it in a cave did you notice any tracks of the suspect? It looks fairly recent. Did you also notice the condition of the teeth to get an idea of age?
Maybe the predator drug this young female into his lair and when she didn't perform he killed her.... kind of a dark deed.

Re: Dead Lion
I'd say she starved to death maybe hurt & had a hard time hunting. She had small kittens & they feed on her till some other preditor finished them off. Mark
