there start to comeback a bit. Too many years of over harvest from old quota system. We now have permit only so they will rebound as long as Fish and game do not get carried away with the permits.

Mulemanbl,
Yeah, I've been working on a home improvement deal for the pass three weeks and have only been able to load the hounds a time or two to road out behind the house; plus deer and elk seasons were on and it's probably a good time to stay home.
I did get my first day off yesterday and loaded eight of my hounds to go look for a bear or lion. We didn't make it very far and my four dogs on top opened with a roar so I put Choco down to go look. He went out on a run so I began turning in hounds behind him until all eight was going across the flat.
They had struck a tom lion that had came up out of a deep canyon around 7:30 AM, and the track was slow enough they'd move it thirty or forty yards then over run the track and have to backtrack a little to start it again. I probably should have pulled them and looked for something fresher but, heck sakes, that's what we were there for right?
Those dogs rolled down the track all day and I got in behind them in an attempt to call them all out before dark. I managed to get five back but three got on across a little road and into the next canyon. Needless to say, I left them out and was back in that same country picking up hounds at daylight.
To this day I always wonder what will make a hound cold trail all day long and into the night and not quit a crappy track like that...........I guess with a slow track in the dirt a guy better be on the right in of a long walker.
Hope you get a little snow in the coming weeks,
Ike

Sounds like Monday and Tuesday its going to snow. I hope it dumps out in the desert so I can go after them bob's. I picked up a dog down in New Mexico back in August, supposed to be a decent dry land dog. Anyways he got kicked by an ol mare I had at my place, so after seven weeks he's just barely gettin the cast off. Anywasy he's still a few weeks out until he's ready to go. JUST MY LUCK

Aint that the luck? Well, I hope that dog heals up and makes a good hound for you. I hope you get all that snow, squeeze the clouds on the way past so none of it makes it out here OK?
Tomorrow is the last day of lion season for nearly a week, so I better load the hounds and go play a little--might even strike a bear. Got a young buddy going with me tomorrow and splitting dogs, which is something I don't do much of. I guess I just hate leaving half my dogs home.
