I was wondering how you guys like your CB radios. How is the range in the mountains? I know there are better but I do not want to take a class. I broke my drive shaft last week and couldn't get out in 2 wheel drive. With a little better range than a hand held radio I could of reached town. Is a CB radio's range any better than a hand held?
Could a cb reach up and over 2 canyons 3 or 4 miles as the crow flies? From bottom to bottom?
Is there a cb you would recamend? What does it cost?
Is the cb the most power full radio available that doesn't need a permit?
Any help would be good, thanks Gabe
PS the post below was good for guys considering better radios.

Re: CB radios
I would spend the money on a good antenna setup over a Good Radio. Plenty of Good Antennas out there, I like the 102 whips, but I've run just about all of them. Get it tuned.
5 watts is legal max, any cb should have that. You can normally find a Shop that will tune and tweak them up if you like for 20 bucks or so.
I personally won't own a truck without a CB radio.
I can get some models of CB's I don't sell them allot but I have access to them, but you might find them cheaper if you look around Localy.
If you need any help you can PM me, I'll try to help you out where I can.
No telling if they'll reach where you want when you want...
