What temp for coons?

Post by swamphounds »

I been hunting for coons for a while and just wondering what temps others are finding that coon are coming out. I havent had much luck lately but it hasnt been but zero here at night and 20's during the day. I found that I get alot more coon when its about 20 at nite and 40's during the days.

What everyones thoughts on it. how does it vary in your areas.

Lived in New England for 50 years, my favorite time to season out a young hound was in Feb. when the boars were running to breed, thin and full of fire. I would go to the ledges or dens as cold as 5 above, and wait till the coon had been gone a while. Coon will run near zero degrees at thast time and sure is a learning experience for a young hound,
