My first lion by Adam Anderson
on friday morning we had good snow from thursday. i started at 2:30am and cut cal bryant started on the other end of the mountain. he called and said he cut a track so i loaded up and headed to him. we turned out and the dogs took the hot track and were gone over the ridge in seconds. shortly after aprox. 30 deer came over the ridge it gave me a bad feelin to see that, but i kept watchen for the dogs and none came over the ridge. cal told me to trust the dogs so i did after using the garmin astro and cals quick track we soon figured out were the dogs were at and decided to go two canyons down and drive our atvs to the ridge to to hike in because the canyon they were in had no roads. we could not make the ridge due to snow so we started walking the rige top was piled with snow as we came down the ridge we could hear the dogs baying but it was echoing off of the canyon walls so it sounded like it was on the far ridge. we pushed on trough waist deep snow as we came off the ridge we were able to pin point the dogs on the hill side in a cliff area. we strted up the other side to the dogs and got to the dogs i could not see the lion but had trust in the dogs. as i got up on the cliffs i relized it was in a cave i was afraid to crawl in and look and i couldnt see it from the entrnce so i waited for cal. cal crawled right in and took pics after seeing him i settled down and went in (i was still unsure to say the least) after photos we decided i couldnt shoot in in the cave safely so cal dug out a smaller entrence and built a fire it took a bit but the smoke pushed the lion right out and it sprung off the cliffs with no chance for a shot. we turned the dogs loose and my pups got super exited and took off with cals dogs the cat ran up the ridge and the dogs caught it in a tree. it jumped the tree and the dogs and lion went to the creek bottom out of sight we took off running knowing the dogs had it on the ground and not wantin to get a dog killed. we got to the cat and cals chance dog was pinned down the lion had bit his nose and wouldnt let go brad hodge who had joined to walk the track out kicked the lion and it droped the dog brad and i leased the dogs and got several tied up. i drew my revolver and shot it in the cheast i was told to shoot til i knew it was dead so i shot 4 times. after that i just stood there and looked at it my pups were dragging it around and chewing on it after photos and a break i loaded it on my back and walked out several miles i had to take lots of breaks along the way. but it was worth it cals father and friend met us at the closest road to us we met up with them and and took more photos. i would like to thank cal for all his help a support i would also like to thank cals father cals friend reble , brad hodge ,fred anderson ,and john jones for helping walk the track out

Well Adam summed it up pretty good. It was a good race and the dogs did great! Still some sore swelled up dogs as they got a bit too close while cat was in the cave. Well here are a few more pics too go along with the ones Adam posted. dates are wrong but what the hell does that matter.
Adam pulling dogs out of the way to get a picture

A few of the dogs

Patiently waiting for lion to come out

most all the dogs

Headed out
