Breaking Dogs From Elk Question

I'm going to be up elk hunting next week and I was hoping to possibly trash break my hounds from elk. Now I know I can just let them go and chase them and then shock them, but I don't want to piss off hunters or possibly screw up my buddies hunt. I was wondering that if we got a elk, and if I let them walk up and sniff it, if I shocked the crap out of them then if it would do any good or not. Or do they need to be chasing the trash to drive home the message. Thanks for the help.

You will probablly have to catch them running trash to break them of it. They wont know why they are getting shocked if you just walk them to a dead elk and let them have it but thats just my two cents.

i dont know about your way but here the elk dont seem to run far....we just find one on the side of the road...turn the dog down and we usualy have to patch him up and put him back in the truck 15 min later.....here they just seem to stand and fight...not much running....
