lion hunt turned into coon hunt
a buddy and I went south for the first lion season to open near our erea. no snow so it was all dry ground. we frecasted sat morning at the base of the canyon when my bo dog had disappeared within the first hour. i told my buddy jeff to keep up the canyon while i take the fourwheeler down to look for bo. i drove about a mile down to hear bo baying away near the creek. when i got to him i saw bo fighting a boar under a tree with another coon up above him. wow what a way to start i figured. i walkied my buddy to come down and get a part of the action. bo kept the fight on down the creek bottom to a river willow and the scrappin kept goin until jeffro got there and turned four other dogs loose to get in on the fun. coon didn't make it that's all i have to say about that. we snapped a couple of pics and headed up the canyon again. jeff has a good hound out of jeff allens stock who tried vigoriously a couple of times to get something going but no luck. went back to town had a burger a couple of beers and a whole lot of laughs that night which was mostly jeff and his son making fun of me. guess i can't be mad cause i was laughing just as hard or harder. went back to the truck and parked at the base of the canyon to get some zzzzzz's. jeff and his boy slept just fine as i on the other hand was up all night listening to their snorring and burger farts which has taught me a hard lesson in life. always take air freshener when hunting with jeff and billy. when they finally woke up it was back up the canyon we go. this time jeffs boner dog took out a track and started up the side hill into some rock cliffs. yippee we thought as we thought a lion race was underway. we watched very contently as the hounds worked together through the shell rock and through the rock cliffs. finally it seemed as they had something in a small cave leading us to believe that they got on a bobcat and had it caught in its den. we climbed up the mountain and to the hounds to find another coon inside the small cave. we tried another canyon but by then the hounds were pretty pooped out. still had a hellofatime out there in Gods country. I wouldn't have traded the trip for anything in the world. good hounds good country and definitely good company. life is good.
