How many dogs do you plan on hunting? Are they real bear dogs and are they in great shape. This all plays a role in how many bears aday you can catch. I know if I had 3 or four groups of dogs to run I would catch 4 or more a day here, as the pressure is little and the populations good. The fact is if you have one pack of hounds on a running bear they may be only good for that one bear. Sometimes they are to sore to catch much but an easy one the next day as well.

Vancouver Island.
IIRC there are more bears here per sq mile than anywhere else.

I never looked to see where you were from before replying, my mistake
A U.S resident can't run here in Canada unfortunately, as far as I know there is no way around it.

As we hunt for fun, two bears a day is possible but realistically one because a guy wants to hunt the next day.
Only limited by our country (terrain) it often takes several hours to get to the dogs (and races go that long as well)
Have done 2 in a day but usually one would be a relatively short pop up (and those are far and few between compared to the open rolling country on mainland in BC where 15-20 minute races are quite common)

My best 2 days for bears spotted from the truck is 33, that was before I had hounds on a spring bear hunt years ago. I thought that was impressive.

Good running to you.

You have to hire a outfitter and go on a guided hunt to run your dogs. In my area I hunt with 3 dogs and would hope to catch 15 to 20 in a 10 day period. Vancouver Island probably has more bears but the terrain is not to forgiving.

Northern WI is good. There is some guys you can rent a bait and cabin, for a week or two. Wolves are becoming more of an issue, especially during the summer months when they have pups. There is a lot of thick cover and water, I see your from UT, unless your dogs have run this kind of terain, I wouldnt get my hopes up of 4 bear a day. A friend of mine from CO comes back and it takes two weeks for his dogs to catch a bear by themselves, because they are use to mountains and dry, two different games, and he has as good of dogs as anyone out west, also have a six dog limit, just so your aware of that, were trying for more, but havent won that battle yet. We do have a lot of bear, and good training, good luck on your adventure, I'm sure you will have a great time, where ever you go.

Va or Wv would be good early during training season but its slim pickings if winter gets bad around here.

West Va has (had) a year long training season, but for residents only. Forget Va., getting more crowded and restrictive all the time. Bunch of land owner problems. Just IMO
