I do. I wish I could break my dogs off coon but simply don't have enough cats to do so. I may go a month or two around Menard without cutting a bobcat track. This was sheep and goat country for a hundred years and the cats were eliminated at one time. They are finally making a comeback as ranchers abandon the sheep.

If u let your dogs run coon, they will not look for cats much, because
they are always tripping over coon. & they put out so much scent
more than cats.
In my opion coon are the worst trash that there is for cat dogs.
It is a constant effort to break & keep cat dogs off coon.
I never had much trouble with deer, coyotes with my cat dogs, but if u ever let dogs get started running coon,
they are hell to break off. Some dogs will never give up on coon, no matter how much u shock them. I have had dogs that I almost ruined them to get them stopped. & they were good cat dogs when they were on a cat.
A serious cat hunter that only wants to run cats, make coon a no no from the very start as a pup. There is nothing worse than running a cat for 2 hours & one dog trips over a coon & trees him & it blows up the race for the other dogs. & when u get to the tree all the dogs are treeing like old slobber mouth off colored dogs.
Just my 2 cents worth

Gary, with all that good looking country I drove thru yesterday, I would think you guys down there would be covered up with cats. I had to make a trip to Kothmann's to pick up some feed. Sure is beautiful realestate. Later Kiel

I have never treed a coon when cat hunting.. Our coons and cats are not in the same areas..

So I do run both.. I enjoy coon hunting and because I enjoy it (much less frustration then bobcat hunting) I will continue to run both with the dogs..

They never seen to have too much trouble switching from one to the other..

But I've seen dogs act like a bunch of jackasses when hunted on coon hard then trying to switch over to bobcats.. Maybe your dog's mindset is part of it.. I have one who just looks for cat no matter what we are hunting..

Some areas don,t have much coon population
so don,t have much trouble.
But areas where I live they are like rabbits, every where.
Dogs love to fight coon , as the coon will make noise & get the dog fired up
If u live in low coon population area good for u.
In my area, with a good coon dog, u can drop him any place & have a coon going in 5 min or less.

I didn't mean "your dogs" as in anyone particular.. I meant it in the general sense..

I wish I had a high coon population and the area in which to run them.. You wouldn't see my ass hiking all over the mountains for bobcats.. I would be the proud owner of a bunch of coondogs ;)

I hunt coon cat and coyote all with the same hounds and the only problem i ever have is a coyote chase every once in a while, while coon hunting. But we all know these eastern hounds are bred different
