Best dog that you have hunted with?

Post by nessplott2 »

I was wondering what was the best dog that people have hunted with or own? Also who owned the dog/what breed it was? There are 2 dogs that I personally was lucky enough 2 hunt with ! Darrel jonets gypsy dog! Darrel hunts harder than any man that I personally know! He hunts bear bobcat mountain lion! I went along with Darrel and gypsy was cold trailing bobcat in dry ground when we were out bear hunting Gypsy is a plott. The other dog was Tim Collars star dog I hunted with that dog for 4 years she would come up with a bigger bear than we dumped on a lot! She was 1/2 plott and 1/2 trigg !

I know a bluetick female, probably ten or eleven years old that is an absolute stud. Here's some stories of her: A retired or semi retired hunter gave me the dog and his quick track a couple years ago. She was about 65 lbs, said to be seven or eight, spayed, and looked like she had been kept about 20lbs overweight for awhile. I hunted the crap out of her on bear that spring, using her as my start dog. Wasn't fast, but wouldn't quit. The pup I hunted behind her is my start dog now. I remember one hunt with a buddy where we struck, put her down and listened. She had a long mellow bawl. She was on a good track so we dumped the box. First dog, down the road; second dog up the road; the rest backtrack or on the road. She had only made it up the hill a couple hundred yards and had a mean sow at bay. I walked up on her, right in the bears face. The bear was just chestin her down or kinda side swiping her, but wasn't campin on top of her. It was amazing her fat ass wasn't killed. I yelled and finally another dog showed up and up the sow went. She also started the first lion of the 09 season for me. It was a hot track and I just sent her in and lead my young dog in. I could hear her from the truck goin nuts on track. Then nothin. I walked up on the trail about a quarter mile and there she was, just mangled. Her eyes were already swollen shut, she was gurgling, and hardly walking. So I let the young dog go and started to carry her back to the truck. The cat circled and treed 50 yds from the main road and in between me and the truck. I set her down at the tree and she instantly started her gurgly bawl. I thought what a bad bitch. She was slowly chokin to death from all the swelling around her neck where the cat had bit down. The vet said if I woulve waited another hour she wouldve suffocated from her own blood. Me and the guy had an outing with words and he took her back the next spring. Last spring we had a bear hunt put on by the owner of the dog. She was hunted by this guy and a buddy of mine said, one day he hunted with him. They caught a mean bear, they walked into shoot it wounded it and the blue dog (Lucy by the way, I'm bad with introductions) got wrapped up. Broken shoulder I was told. Two days ago me and a guy were out in a popular cat huntin spot when we rolled up on some turned around tire tracks. Up the road a hundred yards, the spot where they turned loose. We went up the road aways thinkin about who it could be. It clicked and we figured it was lucys owners son. And what do ya know, my buddy has his garmin collrs still programmed. We had drove right by the dogs treeing a half mile down the road. I mean within 50 yds. We went down there to have a gander and stop at the road and who do I hear, ol Lucy. Her gurgly now squeaky(from the lion) bawl at the tree. We walked up there and there she was at the bottumn of a big fur still holding up her broken front leg and still fat as ever. She's still catchin lions and still fat as ever with three legs! I thought what a bad bitch! She's the man. If I was a dog I would want to be her! A ton of try! A ton of grit! A ton of heart! Might not be the best way to tell the story but I'm sure you getthe picture. I wish I had about four like her. Or one like her!
