Hunting.....For a living.
Hunting.....For a living.
How many of guy guys do, or know someone that does, hunt hounds for a living? Be it outfitting hunts, raising, breeding, and or training hounds. If you do I'd like to hear your story of how it all became and how the journey has been. I know there isn't a tonne of guys that still do but I would love to hear about or from anyone that hunts dogs for there main source of income!
The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

Re: Hunting.....For a living.
I know there are a few guys on here that hunt for a living. I am a government hunter here in Colorado. There are 3 of us here in the Craig area. I am the only one that runs hounds the other 2 just hunt coyotes. I run mostly bear on the job and a occasional lion and bobcat. We run alot of bobcat ( and a few lions) in the winter to keep the dogs going good.

Re: Hunting.....For a living.
PACO, I CAME HOME LATE THE OTHER NIGHT AND THE NEIGHBORS LLAMA NEARLY JUMPED THRU MY WINDSHIELD. I THOUGHT IT WAS ODD HE WASNT IN THE BARN WITH THE SHEEP BUT I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 15 HOURS AND IGNORED THE CRAZY THING. NEXT MORNING I FOUND OUT A BEAR WAS KILLING SHEEP IN THE BARN WHILE LLAMA ESCAPED.THIS IS 2ND SHEEP KILLING BEAR WITHIN 3 MILES OF MY HOUSE PAST 2 SUMMERS.THE GAMEWARDENS JUST TELL THE LANDOWNER TO KILL THE BEAR. I HAVE HEARD THERE IS A GOVT HUNTER (CLAYTON? SOMETHING) IN BAYFIELD=NEAR DURANGO.DO YOU GUYS MISS ALOT OF CALLS LIKE THIS OR IS IT UP TO THE WARDENS TO CALL AND REPORT THE KILLS?

Re: Hunting.....For a living.
Here we don't miss any calls because the producers call us directly and don't call the DOW. I don't think Clayton is on the bear lion stuff.
In this case I would say They need to climb a little high on the DOW chain and see if they can get them to do something. There are 5 of us ( 3 of us that are full timers and 2 that are part timers)in the State that are on the DOW's list to run Bear and Lion

I don"t know if it counts, but hounds are my main source of expense.
