When I was a kid a few years ago, a old Gov't trapper (Earl Baker) used to pick me up to help him some and this falls in line with what he used to say...Almost 40 years ago.
Ok, more than a few years ago...I found it hard to believe then.

I think we all have misconceptions of lion and their habits.

Here in OK, I'm always getting calls about lion sightings and a number are in areas where we run and hunt bobcats. But, I have never treed one yet! However, my hounds tree lion in WY, NM, West TX, and AZ? So, I keep thinking that one of my trips is going to produce a lion and not just a bobcat.

At my Son's place in Central KS, for the last year +, they have been seeing lion. Six months ago, he called me and was looking at a female with two 1/3 grown cubs on a dozer pile outside of a small town. Has not seen them since? Neighbors see them on occasion, but does not appear to be same lion.

And why not? There is so many deer, pheasant, rabbits, etc., that food should be plentiful, & people are scarce in that area.

These GPS collars sure turn on some light as to why sightings of these cats seem to come and go! It appears that they do move through a area a lot more then we ever imagined!
