First Lion

Post by COHUNTER »

I got my first lion Wendsday with the help of John Evert.(hope I spelled his name right) I found the track at 11 am while plowing snow. I tracked it back a little way to an elk kill. This is in an area that is usually unhuntable as it belongs to an outfitter, but they are interested in thinning cats out a little as they are killing bighorn in the area. I called John and he high tailed it to meet me. He turned two of his dogs out and I led one of my young dogs untill he was jumped. The chase was short only 10 minutes or so. My shooting was pitifull I dont know if it was nerves or the pistol but in the end I got the job done. He weighed 152ibs Hes at the taxidermist now for a full mount and Im eating tenderloins for supper tonight.

Thanks, I wasnt all that interested in filling my tag this early so I tried finding someone else that had a tag. Im glad I couldnt find anybody. Im stuck chasing bobcat the rest of season unless I have a budy along. I hant met John Evert before and we only had a short intro then went on a chase. It looked like he had a mixed lot walker redbone bluetick?? THey worked well. I had my young walker. She acted like an idiot most of the time but Im shure see learned a little. I just got an older dog to help out I should of brought her along also. I need to catch some bobs to of set the taxidermy bill now.
