I get scraps and bones from the local butcher plant, and it is free for the taking, got to love that.

I've been feeding Hi Standard for the last couple years with good luck. Hounds do well on it, affordable and they look nice. I'll add in raw meat from time to time but I'm not real consistent with it.

I feed black gold, the black bag to my hounds and their coats are shiny and they have engery up the @ss!!! Here its only 30$ a bag(ish) and its 50lbs and I only have to feed literally 3 cups a day to my dogs and they are perfect in the weight department, and cleaning kennels is so easy, not much to actually clean-up. My friend is a black gold dealer so I get to read/learn all about the different formulas etc any time I want to. I would recommend it.

Scientifically how does different food cut down on the amount of crap you shovel up? I am interested in this because my dogs could fill the kennel with dung 2 feet deep in about a week. mostly like cow pies too. if there was a food that cut down on the amount and made it come out hard instead of all over the place it would be worth the extra money.

The problem with dog food is: Most of it's ingredients runs right through a dog. The reason some brands have less chit to clean up is because the dogs body actually uses most of the product so there's very little waste. Kinda like if you eat salads and healthy food or go to mickey "d"s every day....you'll notice the difference :D

The main ingredient in ole roy is corn stubble which is pretty much like feeding them saw dust, with a little gravy poured on it. And the main ingrediant in black gold is meat and they add more omega 3 which is the substance that is a stool stiffener. So yes it is very low maintanence you can kick the turds because they are so hard. plus you dont have to feed them nearly as much. You can also run your dogs harder longer with out them getting tired so quickly. In my opinion you get what you pay for in dog food.
if it aint plott its all for not
