Lion hunt on tv

Post by Lil Joes BigGame hounds »

I seen this lion hunt on tv tonight, it was Mcmillan river adventures. I think it was Brent Mcgee guiding. He and his dogs did agreat job. But the host of that show is a joke. sprayin down with scent killer and all that damn advertising. I thought it was just pretty damn silly, why couldnt they show the days that go by with out cuttin a track or more ofthe dogs workin (at least at the tree). I guess it doesnt matter I just thought I would vent a little. Good job Brent glad you had to put up with that guy instead of me.

I filmed a lion hunt with a guy too and he would ask me what was going on then in the camera retell what I told him like he was the expert. Then wanted me to carry his lion out cause he didn't want the hide dragged(on snow)guess what he got told LOL and after about fifty feet he was ready to drag. Then he smacked a pup of mine(her first lion),as she was chewing(not pulling fuzz) Needless to say she got to chew till I told her to quit. You guides are tougher than me.We used to do alot of it but I got sick of being a high priced babysitter. We got some awesome footage though and I can't wait for it to air.We had kinda a crappy day and had just decided to bag it,and we're in the pickup with the cameraman in the backseat, the host asked me if I had ever had a lion cross the road in front of me without dogs on him.I had literally just said no and what walks across the road in front of us,with the camera rolling but a lion. The holy sh*t that came out of my mouth had to be edited to holy smokes LOL

I would love 2 see that clip. I have had the pleasure of huntin with brent, hell of a guy & he'll make u laugh your ass off. He made the paper here last year. he took a guy up under the worst of conditions, I think it was around May and bagged one when the rest of us got skunked. Sometimes we just have 2 put up with idiots 2 promote our sport i guess.

I don't get the outdoor Channel, Might have to try and get it recorded at a friends house.

I enjoy his videos, Too bad Can't get them any more :( .. Lots of lions trees and If I remember right only one was harvested in his western lion adventure DVD.. I got the treat of enjoying some of his boot leg stuff which was even better!

Wouldn't mind seeing this one, Sounds like it was kinda a Joke with the BS stacking up around the cameras..

Lil Joe,

I haven't seen the show because I don't get the Outdoor Channel but I've sure heard plenty from buddies calling and mocking me. :)

Those boys have come out here to the West and been on a few deer and elk hunts and stuff with an outdoor buddy of mine. I got to know them and they are pretty fun guys. They were coming out to do a couple of lion hunts and during the year my buddy ended up moving.

Basically, I just got kind of roped into helping him last minute. Since I was already friends with them I told them sure, come on. I didn't know it was all going to be filmed and put on TV. :)

I don't know which one you watched, but the actual hunts were OK. But all the BS about mentioning sponsors, and promoting their scents, clothes, predator calls, etc... I had a gut full of that in about 2 minutes.

They are fun guys and fun to hunt with, I could have done without all the camera stuff and the BS that flew once the cameras were turned on. But some of it was pretty comical. ;)

They wanted to come this year again but I politely declined. :) They did go out to CA this past fall and do a bear hunt with my buddy Tony and he said the BS was just as bad when the cameras rolled.

As he put it, "It would have been a damn good time if they'd have just left that ****** camera home." :D

But I knew the instant it ran on TV the first time because I got a phone call from a buddy and he was laughing his ass off. So I knew I was going to hear plenty about it. :(

What the camera probably didn't show on the one hunt was that it was an all day affair... got off the mountain in the dark and everyone was EXHAUSTED. Nice tom, but he made us pay dearly. Dogs hung up in the ledges, people hung up in ledges and unable to go down canyon, fatigue and bitter cold. Not sure the cameras captured the human suffering on that hunt. ;) (Most of it mine)

If you see me on any of those future TV shows, it's going to be an episode shot down in the Stripper club in town, it damn sure won't be on the mountain.

For those TV guys, it's all about the kill. For me it's about the dogs and has nothing to do with the kill, so I'm not their guy. Every time I talk to them, they mention a hunt but they got the wrong guy here.

I'm a pursuit guy, if I never see another lion fall out of a tree dead it will be too soon. ;)

I knew that was probably the situation( mainly by the look on your face when he was sprayin you down with scent killer).

I sure wish the outdoor chanel would have a hound huntin show. I think it might help our sport alot. Espicaly with the catch and release sceens so people can see we arent all blood thirsty savages. :)

On the bear hunt this fall, Blood 'n Guts had rigged and turned loose and the dogs were rolling... they were starting to get out of hearing.

These guys are wanting to shoot an entire movie there at the trucks and finally BNG just walked over, climbed in his truck and drove off.

He said they weren't very happy. :) My guess is they'll cut that part off the TV show where he says, "This is bullshit" and walks over to his truck and drives away while they're plugging Wildwood Predator calls or whatever. :)

Like I said, I haven't seen either of the shows but I got to watch them film their stuff first hand so I saw the BS flying, even had to duck a couple of times so I didn't get my new hat soiled. ;)

I'm not trying to sell any hunts and I'm damn sure not trying to sell any scent or predator calls so they know better than to call me again.

I agree with your idea about the hounding show on the Outdoor Channel but I think what they really need is a show called "Hound Doggers Gone Wild" where they cut a bunch of us loose at the Playboy Mansion.

I'd make a good host don't you think? ;)

Buddyw and I were talking about making a bobcat video where all we show is our dogs screwing up, you know the real stuff that happens, trash races, back trailing, trash races, dogs going to the bathroom on top of the box, more trash races, a jumped race and and getting smoked, and finally a trash race! :D I did see that show on tv, how nice was it for a lion track to just happen to show up where he was doing his calling! I'm going right now to get me some of those calls!!! :D
All kidding aside, good job Brent, nice catch!!! sure glad you got to guide them and not me!

I have all ways liked reading HD posts but the "Hound Doggers Gone Wild" is the best idea yet.

Maybe you guys should do that and set up a "class" for everyone who wants to buy a hound :D That way they would get the real life of a hounder LOL

You know I had another idea I was thinking of pursuing too (just in case Nolte got the gig as host at the Playboy Mansion)

I liked Bruce Kennedy's idea where he went and interviewed well known houndsmen and hunters in that Warriors of El Gato video.

But my idea is somewhat different. Instead of interviewing the hound guy himself, I want to do a series where you take a well known houndsman and then interview his:

Ex-wives, probation officer and bail bondsman, former Cell-mates, his Bookie, his Stripper girlfriend, a few of the Repo men looking for him, local county Prosecutors, his meth Dealer, some of his AA mates, and then a few ex-hunting buddies...

Ya know, get the "other side" of the story. What do ya think? ;)

I was going to call it "Legends Exposed" or something like that. :D

I saw the TV show; at first I wasn't sure if it was really the genuine article HoundDawg. Tell they started spraying him with scent killer and he asked what the alcohol content of it was. But the clincher was when HoundDawgs actor friend starts blowing his call and you hear “Boy you sure do have a pretty mouth” “Squeal like a pig boy”. Yep it was the real deal.
