Lots of miles and went no where

Post by Caincando1 »

We finally got out for the first time this season plus it was our first time using the Garmin Astro. Nobody has been seeing much of any tracks for days. Today was the same, there wasn’t a coyote track to be found. So we dumped our dogs in a section that always hold yotes. But the coyotes are known to circle in the thick brush. It seems that unless there is enough dog pressure they don’t come out of the thick stuff. I was worried because our dogs are good and out of shape and I knew they would get tired quick and probably not be able to push the coyote hard enough to get it out of the section. Sure enough we spent the better part of the day trying to catch the dogs as they went around and around. I put the dogs tracks on google earth. According to the Astro, Minnie (green) put on 6 miles, Copper (blue) 9 miles and old Hub Cap (red) put on 14 miles in this tiny area. That’s not counting the distance traveled in the truck. As you can see in the image, they never left the middle of this one mile wide section. We even had another guy dump some fresh but young dogs but they couldn’t get the yote rounded up or kicked out either. We were happy to just get the dogs caught up. They were dead tired and needed a break. Once the season goes on and they get in shape, they shouldn’t get nearly as tired in this distance.
